September 1st, 1992

We arrived at King Cross station in London, and we're on our way to Platform 9 3/4 like every year for the past 7 years. It's become a tradition to go to the platform, as our whole family goes here September 1st to send off each other to Hogwarts. But this year is different, because I'm going!

"Ok everyone! We're at platforms 9 and 10, you all know what time it is!" Jacob heads first, then Sandra. "Your turn to go alone, Y/N!" Mum says. I turn and smiled. I look at the wall, and run straight towards it. I pass through, and meet my siblings at the door of the train. My parents come through with my sister, Alex, and come and hug us goodbye. "We'll see all of you at Christmas! Have a safe trip! Jacob and Sandra, be sure to keep an eye out for Y/N! It's their first year, and might get lost!" My father says before letting us aboard the train.

I find an empty room for myself, and sit in it with my pet cat. I start to think about what house I'll get put into.

My dad's a Gryffindor, Jacob is also a Gryffindor, Sandra is a Hufflepuff, so it's sort of a mix in my family. Plus my dad's siblings are in all different houses, so I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up in Ravenclaw or Slytherin.

I keep waiting for the train to begin moving, before some others knock on the door and open it. "All the other ones are taken, can we come in?" I look up, and see two girls and a boy standing at the front entrance. The boy had brown hair, and buck teeth. He had a red tie on, so he must be a Gryffindor. He looks young enough that he's probably only in his second year. A girl with red hair, she must be a first year since she has no colour on her tie or robe yet. And the last girl, blonde hair, grey eyes, and no colour, so another first year. "Yeah! Come on in!" I move my cat beside me, so they can have more room on the other side and so they don't sit directly beside me because "personal space".

It was a long ride, a couple of hours to be exact. But once we arrived, we all got off of the train with our things. "All first years, follo' me!" A big tall guy shouts, standing near the front of the train. Once everyone's off the train, and all the first year's are in a group together, the tall man starts to walk towards the lake. "Hello first years, I'm Hagrid! Everyone get in a group of 2 or 3, and get in 'e boat" Hagrid said to us first years. Me and the two girls I met on the train decided to sit in a boat together. Once everyone sat down, the boats started to move.

"My name's Ginny! What about you guys?" The red haired girl, Ginny, said. "I'm Luna! Luna Lovegood!" The other girl with blonde hair, grey eyes said. "I'm Y/N!" We all smiled at each other, and looked at the amazing school in front of us. It was a huge castle, I could see the quidditch pitch from here! Those glass buildings, Sandra told me about those, it's the Herbology classrooms!

We soon arrived at the docks. We all got out, and of course Ginny, Luna, and I stuck together. We walked up the big, tall staircase heading up to the building. We eventually got to the top, and we walked up to the teacher awaiting us. "Thank You, Hagrid!" She said, as Hagrid walked inside. She opened her mouth, and began her speech. "The start of term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory and spend free time in your house common room.

"The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rule-breaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the House Cup, a great honor. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours.

"The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting."

We got beside our newly found friends, and stood there quietly until she directed us inside. She opened the doors, and there in front of us was a huge dining hall. We followed the teacher, until we reached the front.

She turned to us, and that's when I knew the house I get sorted into, and the people I meet, will change my life forever!
