resentment

During dinner, Bruno was quiet as usual, he ate Julieta's newest dish, empanadas. His small family currently talking about their day. Pepa's happy mood could be revealed with the small rainbow over top of her red hair, and Julieta was telling their mother about the ingredients she used for the empanadas. His mind was lingering on the mystery person that lives in the woods.

He never got your name...

"Brunito? You've been staring at your plate for a while." His mother's voice snapped him out of his thoughts. He looked up, now noticing his sisters and mother giving all of their attention to him. He cleared his throat.

"Sorry, mama...I'm just thinking." He shrugged, taking a small bite out of his food. Going back to the thought of you now, you seemed so...Nice. It was the first person who wasn't scared of him, But, maybe it was because you never knew about his family's gifts. Bruno sighed, pushing his plate away. He wasn't hungry anymore.

"I'm...gonna head to bed. Buenas noches." He turned his heel, despite the protests of his sisters and the Casita to make him continue eating. The tiles on the floor lifted to push the boy back in his seat. Bruno stepped over the tiles, now heading to his room. "Casita, por favor. I just want to sleep."  he huffed, finally reaching his tower. The poor boy tripped over numerous stairs because of how much of an ASS Casita was being.

"I swear these steps get longer every time."

Bruno made it to his room, falling face-first onto the cold dark green blankets on his bed. Today was a long day...the last vision he had in the afternoon wasn't great, that poor old woman...

She didn't like the news of her poor dog soon drowning in a riverbank.

A groan of guilt died in his throat and he turned over to stare at the green emeralds lodged into his ceiling, making the room look more like a cave than anything. A large and heavy sigh left his lips, reaching to his wooden nightstand to knock three times to ward off his bad luck. "I wonder what tomorrow holds for me." he laughed bitterly, an aching resentment growing in his chest. His palms pressed into his eyes to avoid crying once again today.

He hated his gift, he hated the looks the townspeople gave him, and he hated how much his own MOTHER saw his gift as somewhat useless to the village. Nothing seems to ever go his way—

—except you. Was that finally a sign of something good in his life? You seemed to enjoy his company. You even asked for his name. That was the first time someone never looked nervous to actually come up to him.

He closed his eyes, trying to use his memory to picture you again. He remembers your stained poncho, and how you walked barefoot throughout the woods, not even caring about what you stepped on. You looked so genuine to him. The way your head tilted when questioning him, your bright smile, and how you talked...

Bruno groaned loudly in embarrassment, covering his face. It was only one time! He was probably never going to see you again.

Then the teen gasped, sitting straight up. "You have fortune telling powers, tonto!" He slapped the side of his head and jumped out of bed to rush to his vision cave. As he set up the preparation to see the future, he could feel the various rats living in his room scurrying across his feet, now surrounding him to watch.

He smiled at his furry friends, sitting on the soft sand. He held the lit match before placing it into the leaf pile. Bruno closed his eyes, breathing in softly before feeling the sand vortex surround him. He opened his eyes, which were now green, and looked up to focus on the sand forming.

Finally, a scene started to play out. You seemed to be twirling, your old orange poncho fluttering with your movements. And you— you waved to the sand version of him! It seemed they both were in the same spot they met this afternoon. He almost jumped with glee knowing he was gonna meet you again.

Suddenly, you jumped in pain, falling to the ground as you cradled your foot. Did you step on something sharp?

"Damn them for not wearing shoes." He uttered, letting the vision end. A jade plate was now in the sand in front of him, the picture showing you holding your foot in pain.

Bruno frowned, there was really nothing he could do to prevent you from getting hurt but...he snapped his fingers. "Julieta's empanadas!" The boy could bring the empanadas to heal your foot! It was the perfect opportunity to get closer to you.

He stood up, brushing the sand out of his curly hair and poncho, he was eager to get to bed now. The teen finally laid down, draping the blankets over him. He sighed, but out of happiness this time, staring up at emeralds on his ceiling. Various thoughts swarmed through his head.

Would you even remember him?

Would you ask about his gift again?

...Would you hate him after he showed them?

The fear of any kind of rejection from you made Bruno's stomach twist. He turned to the side, closing his eyes shut. He fell into a dreamless sleep soon after.

(Hello! Okay, I kind of just had an idea for this story and ran with it. So I really have...zero correlation on how this is gonna go. :') If you have any ideas for chapters I would appreciate it! Feedback as well, thank you! I'll also try to make a schedule for when I'll update!)
