You ran as fast as your legs could take you. Twigs snapping under each foot step, leaves rustling out of the way as you glided through the forest. No matter how fast you ran, he always seemed to be right behind you, breathing down your neck. Your legs started to become sore and your calves started to burn. You looked behind you, he was gripping the large kitchen knife intending to kill you with it. Looking behind you wasn't a good idea, because before you knew it you tripped over a rock the size of a foot ball. You fell to the cold muddy ground with a thud, springing your ankle. His loud footsteps thudded behind you. As you turned around on the ground, you tried to crawl backwards shielding your face with your forearm. He stepped harshly on your chest, pinning you, crushing your ribcage. You couldn't do anything but watch in terror as he raised the knife in the air. You tried to scream out for help but the only thing that came out was a harsh rasp. No one was coming for you, no one could help you. The only thing you could see was that expressionless mask staring down at you. The knife pierced through the air as you woke up with a scream. You sat there, in the dark trembling. Hot tears streamed down your face and your cries became shaky. You didn't want to do anything but sit there and cry. They keep getting worse and worse, you don't know how much longer you can take this torture. You pull the blankets off of your legs and slowly placed your feet on the cold, creaky wood. Gripping the door handle, you breathed in and out slowly and unlocked the door. As you opened the door you were greeted by a tall dark figure towering over you. You screamed and jumped backwards. He stepped into the moonlight that shined through the window, illuminating his face. You tried not to cry, since he just tried to kill you in your nightmare. He looked around the room quickly, searching for any disturbance.
"Sorry... uh.. I had a nightmare." You said shakily.
He pointed at himself and tilted his head slightly.
"Yeah.. it was about you." Looking down, ashamed.
He nodded his head and gently placed his hands on your shoulders. You looked up at him and didn't realize you were shaking until you felt his touch. Slowly, he pulled you in and held you close. You didn't know how to react. His hugs were so soft but firm, you wanted to sink into his arms and cry. You both stayed like this for a few more seconds until you pulled away.
"Sorry for waking you, I'm going to try and go back to sleep."
You sighed, knowing you wont be able to go back to sleep after that night terror. You swore he could read you like the back of his hand because he seemed to realize you were lying. He sat on the bed and gestured for you to sit on the other side. You stared at him for a second, hesitantly, but proceeded. You sunk into the bed, pulling the covers over your legs. He grabbed you by your hips and pulled you in close without warning. You gasped and jumped a little. He moved a little slower, forgetting how effortlessly he could man handle you. He held you close and you rested your head on the pillow. His grasp was so comforting and for once, even for someone who kills people for his own pleasure, you felt safe. Your eyes started to get heavy and they slowly fluttered shut, falling asleep in his arms.
