"Come on skinny love, what happened here?" - skinny love, Bon Iver
-----------------------------
Harry watched as Louis closed the door of their old broken-down motel room, giving him one last small smile before the door closed for the last time, leaving him deserted on that musty cigarette-smelling carpet that looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years with tear tracks rolling down his cheeks. he was an island slowly being submerged in his own tears while he fought to keep his head above water. it seemed as though all the oxygen had been sucked out of the room as Harry's breaths became erratic and shallow.
That was 2 years ago today.
Maybe this was how it was exposed to be Harry realized as he sat at the counter of his studio flat that felt way too big for just one person. Maybe life isn't the fairytale Harry had hoped it would be. Or maybe it is? Fairytales aren't always happy after all. Maybe he and Louis weren't meant to grow old together as they had once believed. Maybe they were only exposed to be forever in their memories.
Harry had always said that he wanted a love story like those from a romance novel, and in a way, he did get what he wanted. Harry just never expected his story to be a tragic one.
Louis did always say they were like Romeo and Juliet.
Sometimes the hardest thing in life is letting someone you love go even if it's at the expense of your own happiness. It feels as though you're losing a piece of yourself too and you'll never be complete again, And when you try to put the pieces back together it never works because you will always be missing the one thing you need to complete the puzzle.
Harry hoped that Louis would keep the piece he'd stolen as a keepsake so he'll never forget him. Louis might put that piece of him high on a bookshelf so Harry can watch as Louis' life goes on without him. Harry hoped Louis would because he couldn't bear to live if the one person that kept him alive all these years had gone away and forgotten him.
Harry couldn't live if he didn't have a heartbeat, and that was what Louis was to him. Louis was the oxygen that flowed through his veins and he was the soft pitter-patter in his chest. Louis was his better half.
But if forgetting Harry meant Louis would be happy then Harry hoped that Louis would forget him and move on. Harry had always said he'd die for Louis, and Harry would keep that promise until the moment he took his last breath.

Dear Louis,
I'm sorry my love that I wasn't enough. I hope that one day you'll move on because, by the time you read this, I'll already be gone.
Yours truly,
Harry xxx

Harry's tears created small splatters on the paper like rain falling onto the pavement. the ink of Harry's pen smudged and discolored under the tears, his words forever misshapen.
The soft sound of salty tears hitting paper reminded Harry of the time he and Louis had danced in the pouring rain together in the streets of his hometown. At the time it felt as though they were at the top of the world, but in reality, they were falling faster than the speed of light.
Harry's pen fell from his hand onto the tabletop with the weight of the realization.
They hadn't seen it at the moment but their relationship was crumbling to pieces right in front of them. Each snide remark and small dig created another crack in the foundation they were sat upon.
In the beginning, their relationship was perfect, it was puppy love as some may call it. They were the couple everyone was jealous of, They were the couple you'd see out in public and wish you had a love like that. But eventually, all good things have to come to an end.
Harry smiled at the thought of what they had once been as his breath began to slow down and his brain became foggy, the pills Harry had taken only minutes prior started to take effect. his voice came out ragged and strangled as he managed out three last words. Those three small words meant so much to so many people. But the words didn't mean anything to Harry, at least not anymore. The phrase had become empty a long time ago, no real truth lay behind it anymore.
The world faded into darkness as Harry's body hit the ground with a solid thump.
And suddenly the world went silent.
He never broke promises, not even this one.
The end.
