Daniel opened his eyes to see silver metal walls and blue carpet at his feet. Daniel looked to see Felix sitting upright and Gabriel still unconscious. Daniel looked at his uninjured hand. "You okay?" Felix asked, bored.
"What?"
"I said, are you okay?" Felix repeated.
Daniel looked down, letting his hand fall. "What... What happened?" He asked. Felix laughed. "The question we're all asking. At least I know it's not a dream. At least not mine." He's right. Pain showered Daniel all over, bearable but painful.
Gabriel moaned and opened his eyes. "Where are we?" He asked. Felix shrugged.
"What do we do now?" Gabriel asked.
"Wait to die." Felix replied.
"Why?"
"Because we're gonna die whether we sit here or move around. I tried the door, but it's locked."
Daniel looked behind him to see a metal door. He got up, shaky but determined. Gabriel followed close behind while Felix just rolled his eyes. Daniel turned the knob and the door slowly opened.
Felix looked at Daniel as if he were mad. "How?" He asked. "I tried so many times!"
Daniel shrugged and went down the hallway. There were three hallways that followed, each leading in a different direction. Bookshelves were lined up against one way while another room was visible from where they were with glass walls facing towards them.
"Which way?" Gabriel asked. Daniel didn't reply, just went to the glass room. He turned the corner to see that there wasn't any door on it. "Great." Felix growled. "Continue?"
Daniel led the way through the maze, sometimes leading to dead ends or stairs that lead nowhere. Occasionally, they entered a room with a few empty lockers and more bookshelves. Daniel's mind filled with questions. How is this possible? There's no lights or lightbulbs but this place is so clear to see.. Felix was right, I'm not dreaming. No one is... how does this exist? It doesn't...
"Hey! Look!" Felix laughed. He ran to another doorless room and pointed to a glowing green button. "Should I press it?" He asked.
Daniel looked around the room. There were some bookshelves here, too. Along with four lockers. Daniel didn't have to check if they were empty, all of them were. For some reason. Storage?
"I don't think we should." Gabriel said. "It could do anything."
Felix shrugged. He placed his hand on the glowing button. Bad idea. Suddenly, the non-existent lights went out and were replaced by blackness, being able to barely see, Daniel ran to the four lockers. "Wha-" Felix started before he was cut off by a loud deep growl coming from the way they came. Felix followed close behind Gabriel when they ran to the lockers. "This is so dumb!" Felix mumbled as he went into a random locker.
It's gonna find us. Why didn't I run away? Why'd I run here? It's gonna see me! Daniel closed his eyes in fear of what to come. Wait for death. Just like Felix said. It's over. It's all over.
The growl grew louder and a tall orange creature with large rusty claws walked down the hallway, it's glowing yellow eyes in front of it. All three of them were silent. Daniel held his breath. The creature was looking straight at him.
The monster turned around and kept going forward, ignoring the room. Daniel waited for a few minutes before he allowed himself to breathe. God!
Daniel was the first out of the lockers, looking at the button that was now glowing red. The invisible lights flickered on.
"What. The-" Felix started before Gabriel covered his mouth. "Be quiet." He whispered. Daniel nodded at Gabriel and walked to the hallway, looking towards where the creature went.
"What WAS that?" Felix whispered. "I don't know," Gabriel said. "I think it's gone."
Daniel was stunned. How is this even possible? Daniel gulped. "We have to leave." He said.
Felix looked at him, looking irritated. "Wow, Captain Obvious. I've always wanted to stay in a maze with a monster until I die. Can't we stay?"
Daniel rolled his eyes.
Gabriel was the first to enter the hallway, he walked silently through the corridors followed by Felix and Daniel.
By the time they reached a hall with two doorways, they froze. "Which way?" Gabriel whispered. "Let's go left." Daniel replied. He started to leave when Felix grabbed his shoulder. "No, let's go right. Right is always right!" Felix argued. "Let's go right then." Daniel sighed. We didn't have time for this...
Daniel and the others went right, pausing whenever they heard some sort of scraping sound. At last, they reached a wide area filled with bookshelves. But what was on them...
"Weapons!" Felix yelled. Gabriel covered Felix's mouth, then nodded to Daniel. Daniel was the first to touch a silver metal mace on the first bookshelf he saw. It was real. "Why would there be weapons in a basement?" Daniel whispered. Gabriel shrugged. Either way, it was good news for them.
"Hey! Look!" Felix ran over to a bookshelf on the far right, in between two others holding mass amounts of swords and daggers. Daniel rolled his eyes and grabbed the mace, following Felix.
"What is it?" He asked. Felix was holding a small golden key, but the end of it was shaped as the sharp-clawed monster.
"It's the Sharpie!" Felix squealed. Daniel froze. "Sharpie?" He asked. Felix nodded. "That's what I call the monster. Best to give it a name, after all." Felix shrugged, then handed Daniel the key. "Better hold onto this." He said before turning back to the bookshelf to claim a long, sharp sword.
Daniel looked at the key for a few moments more. The monster on it would've been hard to see if they, themselves, didn't know what it looked like. From the shadows of the locker, Daniel could only recognize the red claws and carnelian orange glowing eyes.
"Guys! Over here!" Gabriel whispered loudly from the other side of the room. The bookshelves everywhere reminded Daniel of the library he and his mother would go to often. How is she? Is she still alive? Is she worrying about him right now, afraid and unaware?
Gabriel was holding a big wooden bow nearly the size of his arm. "I can wear this!" He said, excited. "And?" Felix spoke, wearing his own collection of daggers and knives. "I always wanted to try using one of these," Gabriel said. "Even if I never got the chance to practice."
"It's better to stick with things you know, ya' know." Felix mumbled. "Especially if our lives depend on it."
Gabriel pretended not to hear and pulled the bow around himself, taking the quiver filled with arrows and pulling it around himself. "Perfect fit." Daniel commented. Felix mumbled to himself, not loud enough for Daniel to hear.
"Can we go now?" Felix asked. Daniel looked around. All he had was his mace. "Hold on," Daniel said. "I'm getting something else."
Daniel walked to a random bookshelf in the middle of the room, looking at its contents. Once he reached the fourth bookshelf, the scraping noise sounded louder.
