TW: abusive parents/deceased parents
Reader's POV:
As I climbed out of my car I groaned at the sight of my college straight ahead of me. I sighed and grabbed my things, heading towards the building. As I'm walking to class I spot an unfamiliar woman wandering the halls, seemingly lost, "Excuse me, are you looking for something?" I asked softly. The woman looked up at me and I froze. This woman was absolutely gorgeous. She had long, and wavy, auburn hair, and caramel brown eyes. She looked at me and smiled. God I nearly melted in that very moment. Was it even possible to have a smile that beautiful? I thought to myself as we held the eye contact for a moment, "Um I am looking for something, or rather someone." She said with a light laugh. I smiled at her and looked down, "Well I'm sure I could help you find this person." I said and she smiled bigger, "Oh you don't have to I'm sure you have to get to class." The sweet woman said. I shook my head, "Oh it's fine. Im not a huge fan of my first class anyway." I say and she nods, "Okay so who are you looking for?" I asked and she looked at the ground momentarily, "Um Y/n, Y/n Y/l/n." She said softly. I gulped as she stretched each syllable of my name, "Oh um that's me actually." I said laughing nervously to myself. She chuckled and held her hand out, "Oh well hi, I'm Diane, Diane Sherman." She stated and I smiled brightly as I shook her extremely soft hands. I quickly realized that I had no idea why this woman wanted to speak with me, "Um Diane, why were you looking for me?" I asked shyly. She smiled nervously and looked down for a moment, "Well, this may sound odd, but I wanted to meet you. I used to be really good friends with your mom and hoped I might get to reconnect with her through you." My heart broke as Diane seemed genuinely excited to hear from my mom, "Oh um, I'm so sorry you have to find out this way, but my mother actually passed away a few years ago." I said and tears welled in her eyes. I put my hand on her shoulder and sighed, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you." I said and she shook her head, "It's okay it's not your fault. I just wish I could've said goodbye." She said and I pulled her into a hug, "Me too Diane, me too." I whispered as she wrapped her arms around me. We hugged for a while when suddenly I felt her slide her hand down my back. I quickly pulled away and played it off with a laugh, "Well I hope you have a great day. Here I'll give you my number. Maybe we can meet up some time and talk about how you knew my mom." I said handing her one of my business cards that I only gave out to very specific people, because it had my personal number on it. I gave her one last smile before heading to class. She smiled at me brightly as I looked back once more before entering my first class. I made my way to my seat and my professor looked at me clearly agitated. I smiled at him innocently, knowing it would make him mad. He rolled his eyes and continued with the lesson. I went through the rest of my day and I couldn't seem to get Diane out of my head. She was just so gorgeous and kind. I didn't even know her and yet I was completely distracted by the thought of her sweet and soft voice, and her silky skin. I had to stop myself from thinking about her in an inappropriate way, but to some extent I liked the thought of just spending time with her. I smiled as I pictured us cuddling and her comforting me when if I got upset. The entire day quickly slipped away from me as I struggled to focus on any of my work. As I left the large building and headed towards my car I sighed realizing that Diane was most definitely not going to text me. Why would she? I'm just a random college student, and she doesn't have any use for me anymore because my mother isn't even alive. I got into my car and exited the parking lot. I turned up the radio and sang along loudly to Little Lies by Fleetwood Mac. I absolutely adore Fleetwood Mac. I could listen to any of their songs on repeat for the rest of my life, and never get tired of it. As I stopped at a red light I began to dance in my car, turning the music up even more. Suddenly a car pulled up beside me and I did a quick double take realizing it was Diane. She looked at me and then waved. I went back to my music and the next glance I made towards her I saw her laughing at me. God her smile is stunning. I thought to myself but was quickly drawn away for her when the light turned green. I sped away and no more than 5 minutes later, I pulled into my driveway. I still live with my parents because they live fairly close to my college. I walked in the door and sped towards my bedroom. Before I could shut the door a hand stopped it. My dad entered the room and I immediately smelled the alcohol on him. I gulped and took a step back. I was strong enough to fight him, but I never did. As he stepped closer to me I realized just how drunk he really was, "Where the h- hell have y- you been?" He asked slurring his words. I stopped walking, "At school Dad." I said looking down, "You lier!" He yelled, his spit hitting my cheek. I wiped it away and looked at him, "Why would I lie? Lying about going to school doesn't benefit me." I said in a calm voice, "Yeah well I don't know how that messed up head of yours works, but it wouldn't be a surprise!" He yelled pushing me into the wall. As always I froze in fear. I just wanted this to be over. His palm struck my face and I gasped looking up at him, "Are you gonna cry?! You little bitch!" He screamed and shoved me to the ground and kicked me in my ribs. He stormed out of the room and I winced in pain as I sat up. I quickly grabbed my bag and my phone and opened my window. Right as I jumped out I felt my phone buzz. I opened it and saw a message from an unknown number,Unknown: Hey, this is Diane. I wanted to message you so you would have my number.
I smiled and typed back,
Y/n: Hey! Thanks for messaging me. I would love to meet up some time to talk.
I paused and sighed as I began walking away from my house. My phone buzzed again and I opened it,
Diane: I would love to! Your always welcome to text me if you have a time available.
I thought hard and long before typing my next, risky words.
Y/n: Hey Diane, I know this may be really odd, but I kind of need a place to crash for the night. I would ask my friends, but they all live a ways away and can't drive.
Diane: Oh that's no problem. Send me your location and I'll come pick you up.
I sighed, relieved that I would have a place to stay for the night. I sent her my address since I was only a little ways down from my house at this point. About 15 minutes later I heard the growl of a car engine. I turned around and saw the same car the was beside me at the red light. I quickly walked over to the car and got in, "Hey sweetie. Is everything alright?" She asked turning to look at me, "Uh yeah. Thank you so much for this. I really appreciate it." I said and she smiled, "Don't mention it. Im sure now we can talk about your mom or anything else you might want to talk about." She said as she started to drive. I sighed and she looked at me then gasped lightly, "Y/n, what happened to your face?" She said shockingly calmly. I honestly didn't know what she meant. I didn't get the chance to look at myself before I escaped my own house. I opened my phone and looked at my cut forehead and darkening eye. I was positive that my side was bruised from him kicking me, but Diane didn't need to know that. I smiled, "Oh, I just fell earlier. It's no biggie." I said and she put her hand on top of mine, "I'll get you cleaned up at my house." She said and I smiled.
