Her flight, while in actuality lasting nearly 24 hours, seemed to go by quickly. It was like an entire separate period of her life and yet, it was over almost immediately. She slept a lot of the time and when she wasn't she was either eating off-brand crackers provided by the airline, the failed movies they offered for free, or sketching out ideas for costumes. You see, Scarlett was a dancer. She always wanted to work for a professional ballet company, but never wanted or was able to commit her whole life and livelihood to it. She had other passions. But she still wanted to be involved. So, she's flying to London for a Costume Design Apprenticeship she was accepted into. She will be paid for 2 years to learn how to make costumes and many other things for one of the best ballet companies in England.
The plane landed abruptly, almost as an attempt to wake up the passengers who were still sleeping or feeling sleepy from a previous nap. The slowing down and eventual stop of the plane was so seamless that for a moment she hadn't even realized that she wasn't moving. The only thing that could've told her would be the pilot over the speakers and the simultaneous standing of the passengers. She too stood and politely waited her turn. Although no one seemed to bother letting her through until no one was left. When she finally emerged, she was in a clustered part of London. She didn't yet find an apartment, but the ballet company has a dorm for her until then.
She called over a taxi and told the driver the address of her dorm building. She owed ten pounds. A couple weeks prior she had already transferred all her American dollars and cents into the currency used by citizens of Britain. She handed them the note that bore value in this new country and they started driving. They arrived at the tall, old brick building. There was an aging and faded phrase on one wall: "God Save the Queen". By the time she got to her room, it was already 9:00 at night. Plus, the time change from country to country even furthered her exhaustion. As soon as she got in, she dropped her bags and threw herself on the bed without even removing her shoes. Her first day of work was tomorrow. For now, she was enjoying her rest as she slowly drifted away.
