The Bell rang, school was over. I said goodbye to Alice, Esmee and Dzjhessie as I wouldn't see them until next school year, I was gonna miss them. I ran onto the schools' playground. I saw my mom waiting for me. I had the coolest mom ever, she even had superpowers! She could fly, how cool is that? When I asked her about it she would always deny it. She stood there in the middle of the crowd of parents waiting for their kids, not talking to anyone. She never talked to anyone besides me. She called it something like: "social anxiety", but I never knew what that meant. I walked up to her and smiled as I stood in front of her, she didn't want me to touch her. Ever.
When we arrived at home I told my parents about my day, how Alice had fallen off the swing and now has a Winnie the Pooh plaster on her knee, how we played family on the swings, how the entire class sung Happy Birthday for Micheal and ate the delicious cupcakes his mom baked. Daddy told me about his day with meetings and cars, but it was so boring that nobody listened. Mom didn't tell about her day though. She never did. There fell an awkward silence in the room. "You should pack your bags." Mom said after 30 seconds "grandma must be waiting for you." "Oh yeah" I said as I ran up the stairs. "Ho ho, what are you going to do upstairs?" I heard my dad jokingly yell. Didn't he hear what mom just said? "I'm gonna pack my bags for grandma!" "Alright, don't forget your toothbrush like last time!" He gniffled.
As my dad put my bag in his car and my giant Teddy bear in the seatbelt. I said goodbye to mom and ran towards the car. It was about a ten minute drive to grandma. Dad and I talked about our plan to get a puppy when I would graduate primary school. I would love to have a Boxer or a Labradoodle. Maybe even both!
As we arrived at Crazy Good Hospital dad gave me a kiss on the forehead as I told him goodbye. He drove off as he honked at me one more time just before he turned around the corner. I walked towards the entrance and pressed the doorbell. Ding dong, wait a minute please, a coworker will pick up soon. Said the doorbell. It always said the same thing, I would always say the same and try to sound exactly the same. It was a fun game. "Hello who are you coming for?" "I'm coming for my grandma, her name is Trudy Davids, we're gonna have a sleepover!" "Oh, that sounds fun, for how long?" "An entire week!" Eeeeeeeeeeeh, that was my que. I pushed the door real hard and it opened. When the elevator arrived, I pressed the button to the 11th floor. As it went up I closed my eyes. I always did that, it made me feel I could fly. Just like mom. When the doors opened again, my favourite caretaker was already waiting for me. "Hey little girl!" She said as she gave me a warm hug. "Are you excited for your week with grandma?" I nodded excitedly. "We already made up the bed in the free room for you." "Why can't I just sleep in the same room as grandma?" "Oh honey," she said as she laid her hand on my shoulder "you know that's against the rules, and your grandma must get her magic pills at 7 in the morning, we don't want to accidentally wake you up." "But I don't mind, as long as you also give me magic pills for superpowers!" She laughed. "Will you join our card game tonight?" She nodded. "Sure."
As I was packing my bags grandma talked to me: "I had a really good time with you," she started laughing "I still can't believe you won €6,45 from Emily" (my favourite caretaker). "Go buy yourself some candy with it, honey" She kissed me on the cheek right before we heard a car honk. That must be dad. "Can I tell you something before you leave?" I came closer and she whispered in my ear: "I'm not as crazy as they say I am, follow my tracks and you'll find the truth."
The next day dad went after my hat which I forgot at grandma's. I was making homework with mom. She is so good at maths, she could be the next Einstein! Dad came home with his eyes all red. He called my name, I ran towards him to give me a hug. He said "Romy, we need to talk" as he sat me down on my chair. "At the hospital they told me that grandma had secretly been saving up her pills without anyone noticing. Tonight they found her with 50 empty pillboxes not moving in her bed." "What do you mean, dad?" "She's dead honey" he said while crying. I also started crying. He hugged me tight. "I'm so sorry, honey." He kept saying as we cried so hard in each other's arms. Her words wouldn't leave my thoughts. "I'm not as crazy as they say I am, follow my tracks and you'll find the truth."
