I woke up to the sun shining in my eyes. My back was sore from the uncomfortably tiny space in the tree. I saw people walking by through the little cracks. They didn't see me. I grabbed the map in my pocket and saw that I accidentally ran in the right direction. Finally, something good crossed my path. But I still had a long way to go. The line was going left and right so I was gonna go left and right. As soon as I saw that nobody was on the path I climbed out the tree like a whale stranded on the beach. I hope nobody saw that. The map was hard to follow, but I learned map reading on my scouting camp so I was good. When the map turned left I went left, when the map said go right I went right. I was feeling pretty confident. On like 1/3rd of the map, the map told me to go straight forward. But the path went right. I didn't take a wrong turn, did I? No, I was really confident and the map was pretty clear. So I went straight forward. I was no longer in a park. I was now in a real forest where not many people have been. The map said to go straight for a long time now until I saw some kind of dwarf. I went forward going around trees a lot. The ground was really bumpy so it took me a long time to actually get somewhere. A rabbit scared the crap out of me when it ran right before my feet. My heart was in my throat again. I kept going.
After walking for hours I tripped over something and scraped my knee. Fuck. This hurts. I turned around to pull my middle finger to the rock I just tripped over. It looked manmade. I removed the rocks covering it. It was a little stone carved into a dwarf. Somebody must have dropped it. I was about to walk away when I thought: "wait a minute. It's the dwarf from the map!" I pulled out the map and they looked very much the same. I almost made it to the house... At least if that's the red cross was. It was just a little while until I got there. I needed to turn left.
I needed to go a few steps further and I was there. My back hurt like I was carrying an elephant and my legs copied the pain. I must have walked for many hours because it was already dark. I was so tired that I could just sleep right here and now. Even standing up. But I was almost there. I saw an open field with a wooden house in the middle. It was just like grandma always described. She wasn't making those things up. It had some trees around it and looked very warm and comfortable. But the fact that it was so hidden inside the woods that you couldn't hear any city sounds made it very scary. I slowly walked up to the front door trying not to faint from exhaustion. The lights shined out of the windows so someone must be home. I knocked on the door praying in my head it wasn't a murderer. I heard footsteps from behind the door. I prayed even harder. The door opened. It was... Grandma? "But... Grandma? What?... But you were dead." I stuttered.
