It’s been more than six years now. I never saw him again. Then lately, fate let’s us meet. But this time, things are very different. Far too different that I know the great consequences. As I lay my head to rest on the desk of the office, I heard my phone ringing. Someone’s calling....well not just someone....it’s Oliver. We had a chat and it ended up joking around as if we were secret lovers. It’s funny though that we act like that. I guess the special bond is still tied between the two of us. We reminisced the memories we have of each other. “Your wife would probably kill me if she’ll read my messages.” I told him. He laughed. “And so is your husband. He’s gonna run crazy across the entire universe to strangle my neck. ” I laughed at him and agreed. It feels good to have this conversation with him. “Are you not getting annoyed with me, that I message you sweetheart-like just to piss you off?” I asked him, worried that he’ll be annoyed. “Nope. And besides, I know that you are just kidding. I know who you love.” he told me, a bit bitter. I just smiled.
One day, I received a message from him. “I love you.” I laughed and decided to joke around again. “Yeah honey, I know.” I sent it. “Just as I thought!” said the message. “Honey, are you pissed off? Don’t be.” Then someone messaged me. Only a number. “What does that mean? Are you having an affair with Oliver?” said the message. I felt like I’m doing the ice bucket challenge. Then I received a message from Oliver. “That’s my wife who messaged you. Don’t reply to her. Okay?” Oh my goodness. I knew this day would come. I messaged Oliver’s wife that I’m just kidding. I know she’s furious. She’s like shouting her heartaches on me. “How dare you send him messages like that!? What if your husband finds out and hurt Oliver?” she said. I told her I’m sorry I did that. I guess this is the end for the special friendship I have with Oliver. “Erika, don’t reply to her anymore.” said Oliver. I replied to him. “I can’t do that. I know how she feels. Just let me handle this, okay. Sorry I kept on joking around with you.”
His wife loves him more than he knows. Oh my goodness, and he doesn’t appreciate it. “If you want him, he’s all yours!! He’s worthless anyway!” Whoa, I’m not going to allow her to tell me he’s worthless. “Oh he’s worth everything. He’s your husband for pete’s sake. He chose you to be his wife. His baby and you needs him. I am not going to break your family. I’m sorry I did that. I’m only kidding.”
“If something happens to him because of you, I won’t forgive you!” she replied. “I promise you, we don’t have an affair. And I’m not gonna joke like that again.”
Fate leads on. That afternoon, I went with my parents-in law to worship. While inside listening to the preacher, I kept thinking about Oliver and his wife Melissa. I’m not going to break that family. Never in my life would I become a hindrance on the happiness of people I care about. With a heavy heart, the two of us will be deciding on cutting that special bond between us. A bond created and destroyed by consequences. And I see the gods and goddesses smiling at the bitter love story never made and never finished.
