So vicious it was that they all died in an instant. I suppose we
should be grateful for small mercies." I just sat there in silence,
open-mouthed looking at this girls, telling me this hilarious story,
with such a blank expression on her face as if she was telling me her
cat had just died. Just at that moment, Mrs Hawthorne came down the
stairs. "I'm sorry; I didn't mean to keep you waiting. I was on my way
downstairs, when my husband phoned me." I instantly looked at the
little girl who gave me a look as if I'm sorry you have to bear with
her. "Yes, Yes he was just telling me he would be home in 10 minutes
so I told him to pop into the shops and I gave him a list of things I
need to get." Then she smiled confidently to herself as she sat down
in a chair opposite me. I just stared at her then at the little girl
who would not stop laughing. Strangely though, Mrs Hawthorne was
completely oblivious to this, to the extent that she did not even seem
to acknowledge her presence whatsoever. We sat like what seemed like
forever when all of a sudden, the door opened with a resounding creak.
This seemed to echo around the house, vibrating of the surrounding
walls. Mrs Hawthorne literally jumped off her seat and ran towards the
door. She got there just as 4 men walked in. "My darling husband, how
i have missed you so, I know I only saw you this morning but it seems
much longer." Mr Hawthorne was it seemed like a foot taller than his
wife, he had a very muscular build, quite in contrast with his aging
looks which was clearly evident due to his white hair and wrinkly
skin, but he was obviously very energetic. It was also extremely clear
that the other 3 men were Mrs Hawthorne's brothers; they had her
piercing blue eyes and pitch black hair and the same dazzling smiles.
Mrs Hawthorne greeted all four men with warm hugs and smiles. She then
turned to face me and introduced them individually to me with such
glowing pride. I must have looked as cold and statue-like as I felt,
as when Mrs Hawthorne made eye contact with me, her face changed from
this warm glow to complete horror. "Are, are you ok? Do you need to
sit down; you look like you have seen a ghost! Please, please sit down
before you fall down." She literally forced me back down into the
chair that I was previously occupied.
