I'm sat in my bedroom, the sound of music and happiness from my family echoes around the house.
I'm sat in my room holding my A-level results and looking at my phone screen where there is an email that I've just received from one of my tutors, telling me she's recommended me to Oxford university who have offered me a place.
Now, Mrs Lewtas told me about Oxford a couple of months ago but I didn't think she was serious. This is a big opportunity for me to take, and I wanna take it, but how do I tell them?
I hear laughter again, breaking me out of my inner struggles, now I know my parents would want me to go for this opportunity, but I can't help but think about him. Theo James Berkeley AKA my best friend, AKA the boy who I have been in love with since god knows when.
Only thing is, he's oblivious to how I feel and not to mention he has a girlfriend, Jess. The girl that's been in the way since we were kids, why haven't I told him sooner you ask?
Well, I was a shitbag...
Not anymore, I'm gonna tell him how I feel before I leave for Oxford. And if he doesn't feel the same? Well, I'll pull up my big girl knickers and move on with my life.
"Nay-Nay" I hear everyone shout from outside in the garden.
"I'm coming, Jesus" I cry.
I look in my floor length mirror, looking myself over. I'm dressed in a pair of dark blue skinny jeans, they're my fave as they make my arse look amazing if I do say so myself. A mint green silk vest with cream lace trimming across my breasts and a pair of open toe wedges. My straight hair is still poker straight from the going over I gave it this morning, I reach for my lipgloss and reapply some to my lips and checking my mascara before I pick my phone up again and make my way downstairs.
I reach the patio doors that lead to the back garden where everyone is, I spot my Nan and grandad Murphy first who are laughing at whatever my uncle Russ is saying. "There she is" my Nanna says once she spots me. "My little clever clogs" she says before she squeezes me hard. "I'm so proud of you" she says cupping my cheeks.
I blush furiously. "Thanks, nanna"
"You got your brains from the Murphy side of the family" grandad winks earning a elbow to the side from nanna making him chuckle. "I'm proud of you, Princess" he says before he hugs me close and gives a kiss on the forehead.
"Thanks, Grandad" I grin kissing his cheek.
I'm passed around everyone, from my Nan and grandads, to my aunties and uncles and finally to my mum and dad. "Banphrionsa" my dad grins before he brings me in for the biggest hug. "My little Einstein" he says softly. "How have you finished college already?" he says shaking his head.
"Daddy" I grin shaking my head.
"What?" he grins before my mum hugs me tightly.
"I'm so proud of you, honey" she cries happily.
"Thanks, mum" I blush happily.
"Next up is uni, but I can help with that" mum says happily rubbing my back.
"Actually" I trail off. "Mrs Lewtas has got me a place already"
"Oh" mum says silently. "John Moore's is amazing, baby"
"It's not for John Moore's mum" I say softly. "It's for Oxford"
"OXFORD?!" Mum cries and everyone around us goes absolutely silent.
Oh, fuck...
"Mum, I know—" I say before she cuts me off with a hug so tight I think I feel my ears pop.
