"One medium extra whip caramel macchiato, two shots espresso with oat milk for Janet?" The young man from behind the counter called, looking around the crowd for anyone who was trying to get through. "Janet for the Caramel Macchiato?"
"Finally!" A woman in dark tinted sunglasses walked up and snatched the coffee from the barista's hand, nearly nicking his skin with her long fingernails. "Took you long enough!" She huffed, sipping the drink before storming out grumbling about something as she flipped open her cellphone.
Morgan sighed, his temple already throbbing from the mad coffee rush, and now from Miss Glass' attitude. Checking his hand, he sighed in relief that skin wasn't broken. People could be rather disgusting to each other, she would have probably yelled at him for ruining her sharp nails if he had ended up getting scratched by those claws. No matter, he started carefully crafting the insane concoctions that people wanted put together next. Butterbeer Fan Favorite, Pooh Bear Honey Tea, Strawberry Goth Frapachino, Sailor Moon Tea, none of these were actually in the small menu but even still the ones that were from the menu were rather unorthodox. Unless of course you get the old man calling you 'whippersnapper' asking just for a coffee black and packets of sugar and cream to do it themselves at the table, all the while happing about whatever flew their fancy.
Ah, the perks of small coffee shops. Uncomplicated sizing names, unbeatable prices, quality coffee and teas guaranteed. Even had Tabby making good baked goods that filled the little coffee shop with the smell of biscuits, scones, and cookies more often than not. And of course, being the local hot spot for coffee shop cryptids and actual decent humans with set schedules most of the time was a perk.
Today? No exception. Already 12:45pm, and Morgan was in the zone. It was the normal rush, nothing major, but god so many Karens making fusses over dead coupons that were for the large coffee chains across town and Joes wanting to mansplane to the younger female employees about the machines when they never worked the expresso maker in their lives were starting to get under his skin.
One day, one day he was gunna snap and pull a damn page from his favorite comic book and go apeshit. Or at least fallow a villainous archetype like Deathstroke or Jason Todd and antihero it up. Either way, with coffee bean Gods and the Holy Creamery as his witness, he was going to poison a duche's coffee one of these days.
"Excuse me?" Morgan snapped back into focus as a man's hand wrapped around the cup he was holding just above his own. "You called me, yes? Alex with a Large Almond Milk Chai Tea?"
The barista blinked. The man in front of him was stunningly model material. Blood red button up shirt hidden under a sharp black vest, nice watch that looked expensive around the wrist accenting the few rings along his fingers, black matching pants with a pocket watch chain hanging off the belt loop, very nice pair of un-scuffed shoes, and a head of platinum blond hair cut to kinda fall to the side a bit if not held back by product with some small brown roots showing towards the small widows peak. Morgan slowly let go of the coffee, noting the hints of grey in his blue eyes as the customer slowly arched an eyebrow. The man offered a genuine smile in return, as if amused by the reaction.
"Thank you..." The man's eyes scanned the ugly burgundy and yellow trimmed apron till it landed on the name tag. "Morgan."
"Oh uh, yeah, Uh no problem." Morgan opened and closed his mouth, he could feel his cheeks heating in embarrassment. "Have a nice day?"
"You too."
And with that, the stranger named Alex turned and headed to one of the seats, already held by a open laptop on the table and a leather jacket on the back of the seat. The barista sighed and cleared his throat, trying to focus back on the orders that had begun piling up while he was deep in through and... the right word would be gawking but that implies something a bit more to it.
