Audrey's P.O.V.
It's 11.00 o'clock. My mom decided to change the floors in the house so I had to get out. It's like she wants to change everything nowadays. After making sure my mom knew how much I was against leaving the house, I decided to go for a walk and ended up in my favorite coffee shop.
The thing is, I don't come here for coffee. I come for the people. People have always interested me. The things they say or the way they dress. But I am mostly interested in their story. I love hearing them. Not a lot of people like to share their story, which I understand. I don't like sharing mine either so that's why I prefer to listen. Listen and give advice, or listen and just smile because some stories don't need to be edited, while others could use some help along the way. This place is great for getting stories. It is at the side of a highway, about five minutes away from my town. A lot of people come here to stop for coffee or a snack and then get on the road again. Not a lot of people tend to stay for longer than a day, except the ones who live here.
I'm taking a sip of my espresso and flip through the magazine in front of me. And that's when I see him. He must have just finished his cigarette because I see him throw one to the ground. He walks in and takes his order. I can't hear what he orders, being seated too far way, but I keep my eyes focused on the scene. He has black hair, I can't tell his eye color from this far but he wears a grey t-shirt, blue jeans loosely hanging on his hips and a pair of black converse. He turns around and I focus my stare back at the magazine. Not for long, because a minute later I hear someone sitting down on the chair in front of me. I look up and that's when I meet his sparkling eyes. Blue, they were blue.
'Hi, I'm Cameron' He says and stretches his hand out to me. I feel my cheeks redden and quickly shake his hand, 'Audrey'. 'It's a pleasure, Audrey' He says and smiles at me. I suddenly feel very aware of everything I do and shift uncomfortably on my chair. He is still looking at me. 'So umm.. do you come here often?' I ask him. He shakes his head. 'I had never seen this place, but I was driving around and got in the mood for some coffee so, here I am.' 'Here you are.' I say.
'Do you go to school around here?' He asks me. I nod and finish the last bit that was left in my cup. 'There is a small school about half an hour away from here. But what about you? I've never seen you around.' He looks kind of surprised by my question. 'I've already finish high school. Next year I'll go to college, but now I'm just taking the year off and trying to figure out what I want to do with my life'. 'Do you have any idea at all?' I ask him. 'No' He simply says and takes a bite of his donut. I wonder how he could say no so confidently, like it didn't matter to him at all. He seemed careless, fearless even.
I'ts already been an hour and I'm still sitting at the same table with the same guy. Cameron. In the meantime he had ordered two more donuts, one for me and another one for himself. Also, he brought me a new espresso, which I could not believe he paid for since he had only known me for an hour. We talked about a lot of different things, nothing important, nothing unpleasant. It was nice talking to someone who wasn't from around here, I could be whoever I wanted to be. 'Hey umm...' Cameron started, looking at his watch and then at the clock hanging behind me, 'I really have to go'. He stands up and smiles at me. 'Can I have your number?'. Surprised, I nod and he hands me his phone, his smile now even more prominent than before. 'Are you going to stick around town for a bit or are you leaving soon?' I ask him. 'I'm moving here.' He says, still smiling. Wait, he's moving here? How could I have missed that? Didn't he mention it? No, I'm pretty sure he didn't. 'You're moving here?' I ask a bit too loud. He chuckles and runs a hand through his hair, 'Yeah, I thought I already said that. Anyway, it's still going to take a couple of weeks before the house is completely ready.' I give his phone back. 'Thanks, I guess I'll see you later then' He nods at me and then turns around, leaving.
I decide to stay for another twenty minutes, thinking about Cameron and our conversation, and then leave as well.
