To my only brother.
-an angsty Kaeya fic

TW:Suicide, brief mentions of blood.

Kaeya had grown up alongside his brother, with his adoptive father, Crepus, who had taken him in after the young boy had been planted in Mondstadt as a spy from Khaenri'ah. Due to this, the boy had frequent wars in his own mind. Headache upon headache upon headache. And so time, and with nobody to go to, nobody to tell, he concealed his feelings into a persona of charm.

This was him, Kaeya Alberich. Mondstadt's charmer. And yet always behind his own brother, Diluc.

The only thing holding he and his brother together, was the past. The memories that they'd shared. The things that they'd laughed about. The times they'd held hands in the dark, both afraid of monsters.

Such sweet, distant memories.

Would they be replayed before death, I wonder...
————————

Diluc has noticed that something is up with Kaeya this week, it seems as if he's been trying to get on his nerves for some reason.

The first few days it was tolerable, but when Kaeya recalled that incident, it seems that something in Diluc had snapped.

—————————-

"It was a rainy afternoon that day, if I recall correctly, right Diluc?" Kaeya picked up his third glass of grape wine, feeling the cold of the glass against his palm as he took a seat sitting on the stool in-front of the bar Diluc worked at.

His brother ignored his antics like he had been doing for the past few days, and so Kaeya had to pry just a little more.

"I'll have you know, I loved him just like a father too, he raised me, afterall. He was like a second fathe." Diluc paused for a second after hearing this, before shaking his head and telling Kaeya he'd had enough to drink for the night.

In response, the blue-haired individual laughed, and took another sip of his wine.

"It's such a shame that you weren't able to save him. A pity that none of us could have saved him. Such an unpredictable death, was it not? You'd thought he was alive at first, afterall." Diluc's eyebrows creased slightly as he placed the wine glass he was cleaning down.

"Kaeya, I think that's enough." He turned to face the drunken man, a glimpse of satisfaction on his face. Bastard. Diluc thought, giving Kaeya a bill to pay after he'd finished his third drink, and announcing that he'd no longer serve him anymore drinks for the night.

Kaeya told Diluc to put the bill in his never-ending tab, and his 'brother' did so, aware that Kaeya would never pay, and yet not speaking up about it. Past memories, such fickle things, causing Diluc's emotions to go haywire like this.

Neither of the two returned home that night. Why would they go home on such a beautiful night? The dark complimented the sky perfectly. The stars outshining the darkness. It reminded the both of them of when they were younger, and although they weren't near eachother, and although their brotherly bond was long gone, both Kaeya and Diluc couldn't help but regret.

What would their father think of their behaviour right now?

Would he be upset?
Would he feel anger to see the two children he raised act towards each-other like this?

Both too irresponsible to apologise, never thinking of the consequences to their actions, assuming that they had many years left to go, and within those years, their bond might be strengthened, or, loosened by the strings of fate.

It was a shame. A shame that neither of them could feel the emotions that overcame the two of them on starry nights like this. The flurry of memories, misery, joy, laughter, and anger.
