Your alarm goes off. You grown reaching over to slam it off. You take a deep sigh. It was already time for work. You didn't mind being a loyal employee, to TJ Maxx, but you also knew deep down it was dreadful. Your life was ordinary. You got out of bed, nearly stripping over your phone cord charger, feeling the rough texture of your carpet beneath you. The routine went like this, you get dressed, wear some jeans and random plain shirt, vans, and out your hair in a classic careless bun. You apply mascara to prove you in fact do have eye lashes and rush your way downstairs for breakfast. You greet your mother in the kitchen, curly shiny hair, in a robe. She was cooking scrambled eggs whistling a tune. You sat the table. "Good morning cutie pie" she said in a sweet tone. You felt your mouth salivating smelling the turkey bacon and eggs. You checked your phone see a text message from your ex boyfriend, in which you gracefully ignored.
"Your up on time today" Your mom said placing a tummy dish of food right underneath you. You smile. "Didn't want to be that annoying girl in the story that has to get yelled to wake up" You said chuckling.
"Oddly specific, but okay" she said sitting next to you with her plate of food.
"You look very pretty today" Your mother gently commented. You chuckle. "Got it from you" You reply with a smile.
"You know, that's what your father used to say about you when you were a baby" she said. You paused chewing on your food.
Dad...
You looked over at your mom with confused eyes.
"Yeah"you said. "What is it?" She asked you. "...Nothing" you said. You continued to eat your food. Your dad left both you and your mom 10 years ago. Your mom seems to not be able to swallow the reality that he was a narcissistic biggot that cared about himself only. Ever since he left you had issues trusting people, especially guys. You felt yourself tense up over the fact she would even bring him up like that.
"One day, you will find love, and even though things didn't work out between your father-"
"HE LEFT" You said in a stern tone.
Your mother was left stunned.
"Sure but that doesn't mean he didn't care about you and I, he just wanted to figure himself out, that doesn't mean things cant change"
"Things won't change mom. He abandoned us. He choose his business over you" You rolled your eyes.
"I understand, I know he wasn't the best but- I can't change the past, the best thing we can do is stay positive. I'm staying positive. I'm happy knowing that at least I have you...But- Y/n, you are around that at I met your father, just because it didn't work out for me doesn't mea-"
"Men are useless. I don't need one" you said slamming your fork on the table.
Your mom was stunned once again. "I will not, EVER, let another guy march his way into my life and waste either of our time. I'm totally fine where I am, all I need is you mom. You have to accept that I'm not dating, and I don't plan on it. I'm not gonna wait for some idiot to come around and sweep me off my feet and fix my problems" You fussed. You lost your appetite at that. You took your plate and placed it into the sink. You put your mini back pack on that was waiting for you on the counter and began to head out the door.
Your mom followed you.
When you got the front door, your mother placed a hand on your shoulder.
You didn't turn around to look at her, you just stopped in your tracks. "Honey- what will you do if I'm gone?" She asked.
You ignored her, and made your way out of the house.
You clock in the break room. You felt a tap on your shoulder. It was your best friend. "What's up hot stuff" Your friend said. You give in with a smile. "New morning, same shit" You laughed. "Not on my watch, I got us free drinks at the new daiquiri bar tonight" She said in excitement. She was a ball full of chaotic energy. Long pretty black hair, chocolate brown skin and dark pretty eyes. She was a total flirt and lured guys in just for fun. She was like the day, and you were the night, yet some how you two have been inseparable since the 7th grade.
"Not you trying to set me up for the 3rd time this week"
"Girl there's so many hot guys in this city, and we're working in the heart of it. How many girls get to say they're working TJ Maxx in LA? Like come on you're too cute to be single" she said.
"I'm just not ready to date right now, I think I need some time" you said
"You're still greiving that narcissistic idiot aren't you?"She complained.
"He messaged me this morning" you said. Your best friend raised her eye brows.
"He asked about the left over pregnancy test from that scare 6 months ago" You shrugged.
"He clearly wants you back" she rolled her eyes.
"Ladies, we need you on the floor" Your boss walked in on both of you talking. You nervously, nodded your head. "Sorry Lynda" You both said to your boss. Let's just say Lyna was a total BIATCH.
Work was same as usual. You always were stuck up at the front as cashier. Despite living in the city of stars, you never felt envious of other people. You liked an honest, hard working, true life style. You never could even imagine what an LA party would be like, hell, you've only been to one party and it was your high school prom.
"Y/n, I need you to organize men's and kid's today" Your boss Lynda huffed.
"Um, what do you mean, I'm always on register" You said confused.
"The person that did clean up over there didn't show up today, I need you, it's a total mess." The woman continued.
You looked at your best friend with a sad look at the register next to you. "Cya" she said.
As you were on your way to the men's section you hear a deep voice behind you.
"Hey, hey exuse me but do you guys have any belts?" A guy said behind you. You looked up. It was a tall guy, in a mask, wearing black shades and a black hat. You were instantly thrown off. He completely towered over you.
