The Real Us

Chapter 2

Min Yoongi didn't bother you much more after that minus the brief compliments he would shoot your way during following classes. Despite the first class being a worst case scenario for you in regards to the seating arrangement, he continues to sit beside you each passing day. You feel you've claimed your spot in the lecture room so you don't move and neither does he. Part of you thinks he's doing it on purpose, to get on your nerves, so you keep your guard up.

You make friends as the weeks pass and you go out at night time even if you would have been forbidden to do so if you remained at home. You have a group of people who are much like you, who are attending college for an escape, and your time in the darkness at the park with them is time you often treasure. You even find yourself a partner, a boyfriend who you do struggle with your feelings for but he seems happy, so it makes you happy. You're alright with how things are, even if Yoongi's sudden and surprising friendliness does catch you off guard. You couldn't understand. You're still rude to him but he always just plays it off with a grin and a shrug like he knows exactly what you're going to say and he doesn't mind. He almost seems to like it.

Class goes on and on and midterms roll around. While everyone around you is stressed, you offer to help one of your friends study as you are confident in your ability to memorize and retain the material. Your boyfriend thanks you greatly and in turn, offers to bring you back to his dorm room to help study. You have never been to his dorm and you're intrigued to visit and he assures you that his roommate would be no bother to the two of you while you study. You're grateful for this.

You follow your boyfriend after class and you hardly pay any attention as to where you're going, not recognizing that you are following the same path you usually do to get to your own room. It's only when your boyfriend unlocks and opens the door, when you are met with the familiar face you hate sitting over at one of the desks, that you realize where you are.

Yoongi looks up at the sight of movement in the dorm and his eyes widen when he sees you. He reaches up to pull his headphones off his ears and when you look at his screen, you see that he is working on yet another song.

"This is my partner," your boyfriend introduces you to him, not recognizing that there does not need to be any sort of introduction yet. "We're just going to be studying. We won't bother you."

"I don't mind," Yoongi responds. "I'll have headphones on."

"Don't you think you should be studying for your tests, too?" You raise an eyebrow and your partner seems a bit surprised by your sudden confidence in speaking to someone in such a way. "Music isn't going to be your entire life, you know."

"Not with that attitude it won't," he retaliates, grinning again just like you expected. You can't help but roll your eyes.

"Wait, do you two know each other?" Your boyfriend looks at you.

"Something like that." You take his arm and pull him to the other side of the room where there was a second guess. You assume that's where his workspace is and Yoongi pulls his headphones back over his ears. You are left to your own devices as he turns away.

"I didn't realize you hated him so much," your boyfriend says and you, again, shrug. You pull out your textbooks from your bag and sit at the edge of the bed, keeping your eyes away from Yoongi, and thankfully he does the same, finding himself deeply enthralled with his own work that he barely seems to remember you're there after only a bit of time. You return to helping your partner study for tests that are coming up sooner than you both are expecting.

Everything goes according to plan with your partner as you both are able to get some good study time in, however you find yourself a bit distracted with the fact that you are in Min Yoongi's room. You're unsure why this interests you so and perhaps it's only because you are getting a more intimate look into who he is outside of being the man you hate more than anything.
