EPISODE THREE / ESQUELETO
The following day, Veronica had made an extra effort to look nice at school. She had even done soft curls to her hair. Of course this meant waking up earlier than usual but she just wanted to impress Eli.
Her day had gone smoothly other than the occasional dirty looks from people when she was with Eli. Not to mention, Eli was slowly unwinding, much on the contrary to Demetri's statement on him 'not speaking much.'
Once lunch had come, Counselor Blatt when up to make an announcement. Veronica noticed the strained look on Eli's face as she began.
"Cyberbullying is no laughing matter. Sending a cruel message to someone online can be just as hurtful as saying it to their face. I'm not going to name any names, but the other day, a mother called me up because her son was crying after some kids online made fun of his facial deformity."
Eli was feeling more and more helpless as he heard whispers from all around the cafeteria erupt. Veronica couldn't do anything but feel her heart get heavier and heavier for the poor guy.
"Ya'know if you're sick of getting bullied, our karate dojo is looking for recruits."Miguel offered and Verena noticed Eli's face soften.
"Yeah, right. You hear that, Eli? A little karate training, and you're gonna kick some major ass."Demetri joked causing Veronica to glare at him.
"I'm serious, Demetri. My sensei's the real deal. I'm sure I could get you both discounts."
"Yeah, right. Johnny doesn't need to lose more bucks, have you not seen the bills?"Veronica added, "As enticing as that sounds, I think we'd rather spend our afternoons playing Crucible Control, than getting hit in the face."Demetri says causing Veronica to chuckle.
"Oh and one last thing, while we're all looking forward to the Halloween dance, let's make sure all our costumes are culturally-sensitive, for example, instead of sexy nurse, maybe try gender-neutral hospital employee."Counselor Blatt says causing snickers across the cafeteria.
"You wanna go somewhere?"Veronica asks Eli and he looks at both Miguel and Demetri talking before turning to Verena and nodding with a smile.
"Well, Eli is gonna show me the library."Verena says standing.
"Just the library, V?"Miguel asked with a sly smirk making Eli flush and Demetri cringe.
"Haha, very funny."Veronica replied sarcastically, grabbing Eli's hand, she began leading him to the hall.
Once they were far enough, she turned around and leaned close to give Eli a tight hug. Eli froze at this, an actual girl was hugging him. A girl whom he'd accumulated feelings for in the short time he'd known her. Veronica was the first girl who didn't just... look at him. She didn't cringe at his scar, she made him feel better about it and now she's hugging him.
