"So Doctor, where to now?" Rose asked.
"Ummm, well, you see, that's completely up to you. You're my companion and I would love to go wherever with you." He answered. Rose blushed. "Hm, let's see. Out of the whole of time and space where would I want to go." Rose honestly had no clue, but wherever she went with the Doctor, she couldn't be happier. "Anywhere my Rose." Her cheeks turned to the shade of her name. "Alright fine space man. Why don't you set it to random and let's see where we go?" "Alonsy. Let's go." He flipped the switch still peeking up at Rose who didn't seem to notice. Rose loved it when he used his adorable catch phrase. She caught him peek up at her as he flipped the switch but pretended not to notice. "It's a bit wibbly wobbly, but I think we'll be good." He said. The Tardis came to a stop. "So! Let's see where we are!" As they automatically grabbed hands and walked out the Tardis door. The Doctor held the door open for Rose and led her out grabbing her hand again on the way out. "So Rose, with how many times we've been on trips, could you tell me where we are?" She laughed "Are you kidding? I haven't the slightest clue where we are!" He loves it when she laughs. He couldn't help but grin. "Oh Rose, I'll help. Let's look around for some clues. By the architecture you can tell we're...well, we're in Paris, otherwise known as the place for love..." He loved being here with Rose. Without noticing he squeezed her hand and continued walking with her. "Ah I see, but the important question is when are we?... No I'll try this time... Hmm..." She looked at her surroundings, the outfits gave it away. "Oh it's Victorian France!" Rose was in love with Victorian style everything- architecture, clothes, art, you name it. Doctor noticed how excited she sounded about it. "Yes, would you like to look like them. I think it'd suit you well." She was blushing and grinning at the same time.
"Alright, I'll be right back." the Doctor smiled as she stepped back into the Tardis to change into something like what everyone was wearing around them. He of course would stay in Rose's favorite blue suit and his lovely coat. He was waiting for her to come out when he saw the blue door swing open and out stepped Rose. He couldn't help it, the words slipped out of his mouth before he could even think of saying them,"Rose... You look... Absolutely beautiful" and that was an understatement. She was wearing a deep velvety purple dress with black lace accents and her hair fell in curly blond ringlets over her shoulders. Rose blushed. "Why thank you Doctor. Would you mind showing me around Paris? Especially on such a fine day." She said in a fake French accent. The Doctor's mind cleared when she talked in that goofy French accent. "Allons-y!" He said as he grabbed her hand and they started strolling around the streets. "Ooo. Doctor what's that?" She would ask him every so often even though she knew what most of them were. She just wanted to here him ramble on and on forever. He didn't mind either. Showing her all the small things and watching her stare back at him with exaggerated interest at what he was going on about made both his hearts skip a beat. "Doctor, can I ask you something?" She asked him quietly kind of hoping he wouldn't hear. But against her wishes, he did hear, he stopped rambling about the bakery they passed that was apparently made in the 1500s and turned his full attention back to Rose. "Yes Rose, of course anything." "Well we are always solving cases. And I love it but I would like to get to know you better. How about we go to a restaurant? You don't have to! Just asking..." She said quietly. He wanted nothing more than what she just said. An evening alone just talking to Rose Tyler. He tried not sounding too excited when he responded
"Oh yes that sounds fantastic!" 'Oh, he thought, that was too enthusiastic and too quick of a response. What if she-' but his thoughts were interrupted with the sight of seeing her grin and all his worry melted away. She grabbed his hand and intertwined their fingers. "Sounds good, but where to Doctor? Any reccomendations?" She looked at him with pure interest. He loved that she was eager to know about him and everything he wanted to know about. "Hmm... How about that cafe over there?" He looked for her approval. "Looks lovely, allons-y!" She tried out his catch phrase and they both grinned at each other and set off down the block to the quaint cafe at the corner called Cinnamon and Rose Petals. When they walked in they instantly fell in love with the smell. "Oh smells good." Rose said. Doctor sniffed himself, "Yep cinnamon." And they walked over to sit at a table with him pulling a chair out for Rose. "Why thank you Doctor." He sat down across from her. The atmosphere of the dining room was cozy and quaint, with light shades of pink and white for the ceiling and floor which contrasted with the tables and chairs, which were thin and black, exactly how you would imagine they would be in a French cafe, and above each was a miniature crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling. They looked into each other's eyes. "So... What do you want to know?" "Well for one, Doctor, what's your favorite thing about going on trips? Mine is the experience and time spent with a companion." She said winking at him. The light of the cafe made it obvious to tell the Doctor was blushing. She smiled and waited for an answer patiently. "Hm... I love discovering new things. As you already know, I'm already extremely clever, and finding out new things to add to my knowledge of the universe is an interesting experience... However rare" returning the wink at her. She loved listening to him ramble and wanted to hear him continue. "So then what has been your favorite trip so far?" "Well.... I'd have to say the first one we had together... I mean...as...this me." He said gesturing to his regenerated face and hair,"you know, the one where we went to new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new york." she giggled at his need to say all 15 "new's". "Yeah, that was nice." She remembered how much she wanted to stare into his eyes and just lean in close to his ear to whisper the words "I lo-" "I'm sorry. What were you saying Rose?" The Doctor asked. Her cheeks turned a bright pink. "Oh nothing, just I lo-long for some food. We haven't eaten in a while." She gave a small smile. To which he smiled back looking a little hurt because he knew that's not what she said. She felt guilty but could she really tell him the truth? 'Of course not, she thought, he doesn't feel the same way, I'd only humiliate myself and ruin our friendship. After all... He's a Timelord and I'm just... Human' she was brought back into reality at the sound of him clearing his throat
"Alright then... Let's order some food" all while he called the waitress and ordered some French pastries and 2 teas, Rose stared at him in dismay. All the while, the Doctor felt the same as Rose is feeling now, because he knew she wanted to tell him something but she was too scared... But he was in the same situation. "So..." She said quietly. She had no idea what to say. Seeing the Doctor hurt was like a pang in the chest. She was nervous and at a loss for words. She kept staring up at his hazel eyes and brown (ruffable) hair. He's so sweet. How could she lie to him?
"Anyways... Could we get on with the questions?" To her relief, the apparent hurt that marked his face disappeared as he smiled and said. "Very well. Ask away Rose." "Well for one what's your favorite food just so I know?" She wanted more than anything in the world to sit there forever and ask him a million question until they both dissapeared holding each others hands and gazing into each others eyes but she knew it wouldn't last forever so she was going to make tonight a night the Doctor remembered. "I've never really thought about it... I know for one thing I hate pears. But I suppose that my favorite food is just plain old chips. The way you humans love chips so much makes me love them as well" for some strange reason, Rose thought the way he said "you humans" made him sound as if she was grouped with the inferior species and she thought again... 'He's a Timelord and I'm just... Human' hurt clutched her heart but she didn't let it show. "Yeah, right.." She didn't mean to sound rude, but she was hurt with what he said. He was about to say something when their food and tea came out. "Look. No pears here." Rose said jokingly. He laughed at her remark. He looked into her eyes as if he had never seen anything like her before. "Doctor, are you okay?" Rose questioned him. He smiled at her, "My two hearts are beating, I'm here with my companion, and the Tardis is safe. What do I have to worry about?" He said matter-of-factly. She giggled at him. Blushing everytime he called her his companion. But the Doctor wanted Rose to be more than just a companion. He contemplated reaching for her hand that was lying on the table and holding it tight... But he thought against it. 'No way she thinks the same way of me, I'd probably humiliate myself and ruin our friendship if I did anything like that. She's a wonderful human and I'm just a lonely Timelord. What could she possibly see in me?' "How are the cookies? Is the tea good?" He asked. "... Are you having a nice time?" Rose smiled at the Doctor. "It's lovely, you're lovely, and this place is lovely." He smiled not noticing that she had her hand on his. She smiled back at him. "Has anyone ever tried to get to know you?" Rose asked. "Usually no one wants to know about me and my rambling about my stories and how I've been and how I feel, but you're really interested in me. Why do you care so much? I'm just a lonely Timelord. The last of them and maybe the sappiest one." He looked at her waiting for an answer. She blushed at his gaze being on her. "Well maybe that's why I'm so interested in you and your ramblings and your nonsense stories." she said with tinted cheeks and the Doctor smiled and blushed the way only Rose Tyler can make him. "Well Doctor, this certainly has been lovely, the whole thing" she said gazing into his hazel eyes "but I'm rather tired, shall we return to the tardis?"
The Doctor seemed quite upset, but he would never keep Rose up if she was tired. "Sure." They exited the cafe together their arms swaying so close to each other. Their hands brushes and Rose grabbed on to the Doctor's hand making him blush. She blushed at the sight of seeing him blush. "You know Doctor, I've never thanked you." Rose said. "For what?" Doctor asked. "For being there for me. For caring. It was just me, Mickey, and my mum for a while. But ever since you came my life's took a turn for better." The Doctor smiled at her. "I'm glad I can have you as a companion." Again with the companion. Doctor wanted it to be more, but he didn't want to rush her so he just smiled and acted like it was alright because as long as he was with her it really was. Rose and the Doctor returned the Tardis still in high spirits, for today was one of their best adventures. Rose yawned. "Goodnight Doctor... And thank you. Tonight was lovely." He turned to her and smiled. "My pleasure, Rose Tyler. Goodnight." he was fighting every single urge to lean closer and kiss her. She looked him in his hazel eyes one last time and said,"Doctor, you can tell me anything. You know? If you feel some way and you don't understand. I'm a human. I get it." She laughed. He joined her. He was thinking why she would ask that when it blurted out of his mouth. "Yeah, well, you see everytime I see you I just know something great is going to happen today. Like Rose and I, we're going to save the queen from a werewolf. But still either way I see it, everything is better with a companion. Not just a companion, but you." He said. She blushed. "Doctor I never knew you felt that way. I feel the same way, but about you." They found themselves sitting there just smiling at each other and gazing into each others eyes. "You... You do?" "Yeah... You're the best friend I've ever had" as she said it she wanted to kick herself repeatedly. That's not what she meant! The look of hurt on his face was unbearable but he hid his pain with a small smile...
"Yeah... You too Rose. Anyways... Sweet dreams" he sat in his usual chair right next to the console as Rose walked to her room silently cursing herself and getting teary eyed. "Oh Rose!" Doctor said before she walked off. "Yeah?" She said back. "Have a good sleep. See you tomorrow. I-uh- don't let the bed daleks get to you." After he said that he thought of how much he wanted to hit himself. "Oh, yeah." She said back smiling, but having her back to him so he couldn't see her crying. "Don't cry." He said. "Huh?" He was right behind her and he turned her around placing his hand under her chin to lift her head. "I'll be here tomorrow. There's no need to cry. I'm right here all night too. I hate seeing you cry." She smiled at him saying that and blushed. He smiled at her before hugging her and setting her off to bed. All night she only thought of his arms on her back and hers on his neck. She dreamed they got to kissing, but it will never happen in real life she says to herself. But most of the night was her having those nightmares. The same ones. Her being separated from the Doctor. Each night it's some different way, but in the end they can never get back to each other. She wakes up crying and screaming with her blankets a mess around her bed. She hears footsteps, but she doesn't know where they're coming from. She's too busy screaming to understand what's going on. "Rose, Rose! Are you okay?!" She hears someone who sounds worried. But she won't open her eyes. "It's me. It's the Doctor. I'm here. You're fine." He says quietly. She opens her eyes to see the Doctor with tears in her eyes or is that hers. Nope. It's his. She can tell. She wipes them away and says,"I hate when you cry." After that she falls asleep in the Doctor's arms. He smiles smiles at her kowing she's alright. He stays with her for the rest of the night and ends up sleeping next to her just to make sure. The next morning Rose wakes up and the Doctor has left. 'Maybe he was never here in the first place... It was probably a dream' but then she remembers falling asleep in his embrace and she smiles because it was not a dream. She gets dressed and heads to the console room where the Doctor is dressed in his brown suit at the controls pressing random buttons and flipping random switches
"Good morning." he turns around. "Good morning Doctor. How did you sleep last night?" She was hoping for a 'Oh, like a baby.' But instead got a," I didn't really sleep. More like stayed up and wondered." He gave a quick answer. It was at that point she realized he could've left at anytime because he didn't sleep, but instead stayed there with her to make sure she was okay. It nearly brought her to happy tears. The Doctor noticed and asked if something was wrong. "Everything's great. But you sure you're not tired?" She asked. "Oh no, my dear." He answered. My dear? She loved it. "Okay, then, where to now?"
