Narrator POV

The floor of Y/n's room was a colossal mess. She's got this tendency of being the complete opposite of a neat freak on the day of a party, always feeling necessary to air out her wardrobe on the carpet so she can see her outfit ideas fully laid out. It made sense to absolutely nobody but her.

She was lucky enough to have the day off the day of the party so she didn't have to rush home after her shift or, God forbid, go to the party in her work clothes.

There's a knock on the doorway of her room. "Hey kid." Her father leaned against the post.

"Hey adult."

"Your room looks like a damn tornado ran through here. Where you headed?"

"Uhh.." Y/n absolutely forgot to come up with a cover story. And she knows she can't save face now. "A... a little get together with some of the other employees."

"Oh a get together?"

"Something like that..." Please don't be a narc right now dad

"Ok- Unclench, breathe. I'm not mad, have fun tonight." He grins.

Y/n's eyebrows peak up.

"Really?" Her voice is flat and unbelieving.

"Yes. You've been very good these past couple days. This job is good for you, I knew it would be. Haven't seen those honkie friends who get you in trouble around here lately so that's a good sign." He laughs.

"Dad you're a 'honkie' too." She rolls her eyes both at his brash statement and old man terminology.

"Yeah but it's different."

"They're not that bad. They're just... a little stupid."

"Very stupid."

"Okay- did you need anything else?" She exhaled and refocused on her outfit choices laying on the floor.

"Your brother's coming home in the next couple days. Thought you might want to know." He smiles softly.

Y/n's smile is bigger. "For real?"

"Yep. Summer break after all."

"Can't believe he didn't even let me know." She picks up her phone to harass him via text but her screen is interrupted with an incoming facetime from Sabrina. "Ughhhhh. I guess I should take this."

"I'll leave you to it then...Be sensible at this party tonight I'm serious. You fuck up again your ass will only be allowed to leave the house for work. Oh and take out the trash before you go."

"Isn't that a dad's job? I'm the youngest. And I'm a girl."

"Thats not very progressive of you my dear daughter."

She rolls her eyes and shoos him out of the room, pressing accept on the call.

"Hey shnookums."
