It was in the middle of the night when Hermione was woken up by the loud knocking on her dorm room. 3:44 am to be exact.
The knocks were loud and consistent, almost as if it was a desperate scream for help. Hermione laid in her bed for some time, hoping the loud banging would soon go away but it never stopped. A huff of irritated breath escaped past Hermione's lips as she slowly got up from her bed. She swiftly rubbed her eyes to adapt her vision to the pitch darkness of the room.
Hermione's head was pounding with a headache at the deafening noise of those knocks. She had no clue of who it might be behind the closed door but she was determined to kill the person once she found out.
A cool breeze in the room brought shivers on her skin, it made her feel uncomfortable so she, without looking, put a hoodie over her head before making her way towards the door.
The knocking continued. "Oh my god, I'm coming, I'm coming," she repeated over the banging noise, unlocking the door as fast as she could.
Hermione's chocolate brown eyes widened at the sight when the door was swung open in front of her. In the darkness she saw a familiar figure, a stranger that she shared multiple memories with, an ex-lover.
"Y/N?" Hermione's voice was trembling with worry and pain as she looked at the sight of the girl. "What happened to you?"
Hermione's heart sunk as her eyes examined Y/N's body, from the bottom to the top. There she stood, the girl who made Hermione fall head over heels in love with her, and also a girl who brought the worst kind of heartbreak, covered in blood with multiple wounds and bruises.
Y/N smiled weakly at the Gryffindor girl, almost sadly as her eyes landed on the figure. "Not much," she mumbled under her breath as she leaned against the door frame in agony. "Family drama."
Hermione's eyes never left the girl's body; how her ripped clothes stuck to her skin in places where blood was still flowing. Hermione's eyes did not fail to notice the depth of the wounds on her waist and shoulder, the cut on her lip and bruises all over her body, some hidden, others very visible.
Y/N's breathing was far from steady, it was rough and uneven as if her lungs were on fire, seconds away from collapsing. It was hard to breathe. "Hermione."
Hermione's ears perked up at the sound of her name coming from the lips of the girl she loved. She flinched at the unfamiliar sound of the voice, it was hoarse and broken. So different from the voice that once was her favourite sound in the world. It's been too long since the last heard it, it seemed that they were nothing but strangers with memories nowadays.
