I have always held the future with several doubts, now I take a pause and I have realized long gone are our olden days.
The days we slept peacefully in our homes without locking doors, when people built beautiful houses without pulling up tall concrete electric fences.Long gone are the days when the community disciplined kids without negative intentions, jealousy or violence. Gone are the days when people lived together and shared, days when we ate freely at our neighbors' house, days when we played with the new neighbors' kids without any doubt of who the could be.
Gone are days when parents didn’t have to worry about their kids committing suicide after they had been punished. The days when parents didn’t kill themselves because life got a little difficult. Gone are the days when student respected their teachers and no one worried about teachers getting mugged and raped by their students.
Gone are the days when young girls went to school hungry, barefoot and patched up uniforms but still with big happy smiles on their faces. The days when school girls wore their skirts and dresses slightly below the knees, when they grew to understand that their bodies were sacred.
Gone are the days when girls didn’t get pregnant for fun. When girls didn’t give their bodies out as 'birthday gifts' or some 'nice to meet you' handshake.
Gone are the days when boys respected girls. When men were made out of boys and not the other way around. Days when men were owning up their responsibilities and providing, when men were not competing with women for attention. Days when fathers looked at their daughters as children, days when men were not viewed as walking sex unicorns.
Gone are the days when we didn’t have enough hospital with a very low mortality rate. When people lived up to hundred years, when death was a result of old age or rare misfortunes not dying in our twenties due to blood pressure, stigma, heartbreaks and suicides.
Gone are the days when we lived, we laughed and we loved.
