"-And so the slime reacting to various emotions triggers a chain reaction in the molecules-"You'd been listening to Egon ramble for a while now, content on hearing his theories and scientific discoveries, whereas others wouldnt give him the time of day. He'd never tell you, but he was thankful that you were willing to listen to him ramble, otherwise he'd remain silent and only speak during dinner time with the boys when they all sat down for their last meal of the day (that is, if they dont get a call for another ghost hunt).
As he paced around, speaking with his hands, you just watched, nodding along. you were currently seated next to the table in which a jar of pink slime was contained, watching him poke and prod at the radio next to it as it played lighthearted tunes. "So, music affects it too? E-emotion wise?" you questioned tiredly, 1:34am reading on the clock next to you.
Egon nodded, running a hand through his hair, a nervous habit, as he fixed his sleeves, rolling them up to his elbows. "Yes, in a way. Much like our own minds can, it's able to read the emotions through the music, be it sad or angry or happy, and it's molecularly charged with whichever emotion it's surrounded by or comes into contact with..." he trailed off, putting on 'Bette Davis Eyes' by Jackie Deshannon, allowing the music to fill the air quietly as the slime bubbled appreciatively.
You gasped quietly, watching the slime move and bubble to the beat of the music, humming along to the song yourself, "I love this song...where did you find this stuff anyway? I heard Ray and Pete talking about an old subway or something..." you asked curiously. never taking you eyes off of the jar of gelatinous pink liquid. Egon smirked slightly at the mention of your favoritude to the sonf, and walked behind you to the other side of the table, grabbing his clipboard to write something down. "Yeah, we found a river of it in the old subway tunnel flowing underneath the city, we had to pretend to be construction workers to get to it..." he recalled, seemingly amused.
You laughed quietly, "I bet that was fun, Pete said something about the cops pulling up." you turned to look at him only to catch him quickly looking away and at his clipboard, quickly writing something down (which you suspected wasnt about the slime). He cleared his throat, "Yeah, the police didnt take too kindly to us, or me, drilling a giant whole into the sidewalk..." he put down his clipboard, walking to stand behind you as he faced his whiteboard, back to you, and wrote down some notes and equations you'd yet to understand. You tunred about in your stool, looking at what he was writing, but mostly at him.
He was so handsome, his broad shoulders had thickened after the invention of his proton packs (even though he'd always been built, let's be honest),you could practically see his muscle through his shirt where his shoulder met the muscles in his neck, and his figure had slimmed a bit, though he still had that soft round belly to him. You smiled softly, sighing. You adored the way he looked.
Your thoughts were interupted by Egon turning around abruptly, take a step to stand next to you. "(Y/n), would you mind helping me with a small experiment?" he opened the jar of slime, and gathered some in a small spoon that had been laying next to the radio, turning to look at you expectantly. Skeptically, you agreed. "If i have to use that thing as lotion, so help me god-"
Egon sputtered, shaking his head, "N-no, no, im just going to lather it on your arms so see if the positively charged neurons would affect you in some way, t-that's all..." his face turned a light shade of pink, but he just cleared his throat, spreading the substance on your outstrecthed arm in a thin layer. Almost immediately, you felt happier, but in a calm way? It was strange, if you were being honest.
Egon must have noted the change, because he was writing in his clipboard again, watching your reactions to the slime. You started giggling tiredly, playing with the slime on your arms as you smiled, rubbing your fingers together and pulling them apart just to watch the slime drip. "This is so cool, i feel so strange..." you looked up at him, doe-eyed, making him sputter shyly and grab some paper towels. He smiled awkwardly, wiping off the ooze and using disinfectant wipes to make sure it was off.
"Well, it seems like my theory was correct," he grabbed his clipboard again, "Slime. can. affect. human. emotions. when. in. contact." he noted quietly as he put down his items and closed the jar, making sure it was sealed before he turned off the radio, letting the sound of the busy streets of New York filled the quiet and dim room.

After a while, you had migrated to Egon's makeshift "bed" in the corner of the room, the blanket pulled over you as you leaned on his pillows, trailing a finger against your thigh as you watched and listened to him work, while he himself was sat next to the bed in a chair, facing the table, his right side turned to you. He had a small cup of coffee and a few empty Twinkies wrappers scattered over the top and on the floor underneath.
You snuggled further into the bed, your sweater (his cardigan) was soft against your skin and smelled like Egon, and you smiled. "What do you think we'll do tomorrow?" you questiond quietly, "B-besides the ghost hunting stuff...?" he looked at you for a brief second, smiled slightly, then back to his papers. "Mostly likely just ghost hunting, and if not it would be a slow day. The only bonus would be that i would have more time to work on my experiments and test some theories. Not to mentions try for new upgrades with the proton packs and the ghost traps, just to make them more efficient and less energy wasting."
You yawned quietly, nodding along as you relaxed further into the bed, your eyes slipping closed against your better judgement. The clock in front of Egon read 2:13 am in bold red colors, the silent ticking of the clock on the wall and the busy streets were the only noise in the room, besides your quiet, steady breathes and his deep, tired ones. He put down his pencil to rub his eyes, his fingers slipping under his glasses as he yawned. "Hmm..." he hummed quietly, grabbing his now cold coffee and taking a sip, looking at the clock.
He rolled his eyes at the time, setting his cup down and leaning back in his chair to stretch, bringing his arms back down to scratch at his chest and fix his hair. "Hey, (Y/n), can i ask you something?-" he turned to look at you, but you were already asleep, his brown cardigan was pulled up to your face as you slept peacefully, curled up in his bed.
He smiled, getting up to kneel next to you, fixing the blanket and brushing a strand of hair out of your face. In doing so, you sturred, cuddling into his pillow and smiling, before relaxing again. He leaned down and gave the lightest peck to your forehead, before standing (his knees definitely popped) and stretching again, walking back to his whiteboard to write down an equation that popped up in his head.
He abruptly stopped when he realized what he had just done. Oh god, he had just kissed you. He thought back to how you were cuddled up in his bed, your face relaxed and your lashes lay over your freckled cheekbones, your soft hair and how it curled around you. He thought back to you in his shirt (he loved it when you wore his things, though he would never admit that, ever-) and how it formed over your curves-
Holy shit, he had feelings for his best friend.
"Oh my god.."
