"Mama, I am sorry."

Mama and Dad were sitting in the balcony of their room, it was turning out to be a hazy evening, maybe the night would turn out to be dark.

"I didn't mean to.."

"Shh.. come here. We know you feel sorry. I understand where all this is coming from but it's only companionship. Nothing to be scared of. Aren't you strong? Capable of leading your own life?" Dad pulled me towards them. I stood there silently with my head hung down.

"I am"

"Then Do you think we are planning to abandon you?" He smiled and mama chuckled, making a pouty face.

"That's impossible" They can never get rid of me, I would follow them even in the afterlife.

"Then, there's nothing to be apprehensive of. "

I looked at Mama who just nodded and I engulfed her in a hug.

"I just need space. No more changes please...let me just get used to this one."

"We will", they both say in unison.

Sidharth will be here today. The cupboard door is wide open, piles of clothes on the floor and bed. Uggh..What should I wear?
The more clothes you have, the more difficult it gets to choose. Abundance of options has only led me to confusion. This or that? And if this then why not that. If you can have all the things in the world, there is no point in having it.

Sana walks in, she is wearing a faded white cotton salwar kameez with golden laces. Her obsession with white is still the same.

We have the same eyes. I used to  feel strange sometimes regarding how our faces were so similar but then coincidences are unreasonable. Amidst all the similarities, there were differences too. Her hair is long, almost reaching her waist, pitch black and she is much shorter than me, by almost a few inches, and way more curvaceous. I was noticing these for the first time, though we hit puberty together I had never even given a thought about our appearances. She has always been into Indian clothes, I remember how she used to run behind bangles. She kept playing with those tinkling, fluorescent glass circles. They made her happy.

"Badi memsahib is calling you." Her eyes went towards the bed, amazed at the clothes spread all over.

I should probably clean this mess.

"Chote babu likes Indian wear, white or yellow or something like that. Don't you have any Indian wear?" She asked, turning towards me.

No I didn't. I have never worn anything Indian. Moreover, they looked so difficult to carry, like I can't imagine how Sana is wearing those golden jhumkas. Her ears looked weighed down.

"How do you know?", I ask, picking up a multicoloured t-shirt and faded jeans.

"Umm, he might have told me.. Do you want to shop? Let's go to Lajpat Nagar. They have a nice collection for Indian wear." She walks to the door.

"No, I want to stay here. Tell mama I'll be there in five", I slouch on the bed. Shehnaaz Rehmani doesn't put in any effort for boys. Sorry.

The picture frame hung on the side of the cupboard, Sidharth had his tongue sticking out, it was all orange in colour. Sana stood beside him, her eyes squinted, face all orange while I was on the other hand with a strawberry candy.

I had my college on a break for a month but there were assignments that needed to be finished. Hey! Where's my camera? In all this hustle bustle I had forgotten about my first love. I pulled out the camera from my backpack. I am in a new place so why not polish some cinematography skills and behave ordinary, the way everyone is expecting me to be.

The door swung open and chachu walked in along with Sidharth.
Hot.
What are you even thinking shehnaaz? Astaghfar!
Outer appearances are deceptive.

He was tall, almost six and his body was muscular. To be honest I wasn't expecting him to be so good-looking. When Mama used to tell me about him, I always tried to change the topic and run away. I still remembered him as that toothless bonehead who used to keep breaking things. His chiselled jawline and tough exterior intimated me would be an understatement. I wondered how I would look beside him, short and petite. I was so thin while he looked bulky.

My train of thoughts were broken on seeing him a foot away from me.

"Assalam.."
"Hi"
We both said together.
"Walekum.."
 "Helloo"
Again together .

That was hell awkward and it dawned on me that he was nervous. This huge person standing in front of me was anxious because of me. I felt like laughing on his face. Before we could say anything else, Chachu came wrapping me in his arms.

"Hamari bachi itni badi ho gyi hai. Mashallah '', seeing his watery tears I couldn't help but feel indebted to Allah for surrounding me with people who love me so much.

"How are you?"

"Good and very happy too. Finally both my children are going to be together", he pulled Sidharth towards us, joining his head with mine. "For life", he added, closing his eyes.

"For life", he added, closing his eyes
