Living A Lie

Prologue

"The new album is sounding really good Kate." someone said to me as I walked by trying to find my boyrfiend Oliver.

"Thank you that means so much to me." I replied smiling at him and then continuing to walk around. I may have been unsociable but I had to find Oliver. After two years of lying and acting like I loved him I finally could end things and be with someone I did love. I know this sounds horrible but let me explain things. When I first moved to California I realized lots of people were just like me in the music business. That one day in the studio when he told me my song was amazing I knew he could be useful. Oliver Midnight is one of the biggest music producers and singers in the world and with him I knew I could make it on top and I did. He fell in love with me and we've been together for a year and a half but it was time for me to let things go. Not only because I was successful enough to but because I felt bad about the whole thing. Dominic who was Oliver's best friend gave me a smile from across the room and my heart fluttered.

"There you are. I've been looking everywhere for you." Oliver said causing me to look away from Dominic.

"I've been looking for you too. We need to talk." I told him quickly.

"Can I have everyones attention please." He said through a microphone that I just now realized he was holding. My album was still playing and the beginning of the song he helped me write was playing.

If only he knew how bad I hated the song it was the complete opposite of our relationship I used him. He took my left hand and began to get down on one knee. I glanced around and saw that everyone surrounding around us and watching. A spot light was now on us know and I looked at Dominic for help.

"Kate Monroe I love you so much and ever since the day we met I knew you were the one for me. I've never met someone as down to earth and loving as you and I would love to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" He asked as I was trying to process what just happened. This couldn't be happening to me right now I was suppose to be breaking things off.

"This has got to be a dream." I said out loud by accident and I heard some people laugh and so did Oliver.

"No baby its not." He told me. I looked down at the ring and him holding my hand. Maybe I could say yes and then break of the engagment I couldn't say no infront of all these people. The song continued and I closed me eyes.

It doesn't have to be forever I repeated in my head "Yes I marry you." I finally said out loud in the happiest tone I could manage. People started clapping and cheering as he slid the ridiculously huge ring onto my finger. He stood back up kissed me with passion and all I could do was try to give him the same.

The album release party continued and it was so hard to get a moment away from everyone. I finally excused myself and took a break out side.

Me: Please meet me outside.

Dominic: You don't need to explain anything it would never work between us anyway.

Me: don't say things like that.

Dominic: I haven't judged you for anything you've done but this is too much.

Me: I promise I will end it before the wedding. I love you

When he didn't reply to me I started to feel sick to my stomach. I couldn't leave my own release party so I went back inside and took my first drink of the night. Even though I try not to drink because of my past I had to tonight. This whole being famous thing was getting to me and this isn't how it was suppose to be.

I woke up the next morning in Oliver's house and I groaned from the headache I had. All I wanted was to be alone but of course Oliver walked in.

"Great you're up my parents are downstairs." he told me walking over to kiss me on the forehead.

"What? I feel and look terrible." I said getting up.

"They want to talk about the wedding." He replied sitting down on the bed. I found some clothes that I kept in his closet and started changing.

"You mean our wedding." I said trying to make him mad.

"Don't act like that you know how my mother is." he reminded me and I groaned at the thought of her. I walked past him after changing so I could go to the bathroom and braid my hair.

"She hates me." I told him. My relationship with his mom was basically like the movie monster in law.

"She does not and why are you getting all dressed up?" He asked me. I could tell he was trying to avoid a fight and I rolled my eyes. He was perfect in every way and I tried to love him but I couldn't. I'm I'm love with his best friend.

"I have to meet with Lindsey later." I replied. Lindsey was the only real friend I had. She was also a very famous rapper so I never saw her.

"Oh you didn't tell me." he said as I finished my hair and began on my makeup.

"I forgot but I'll be downstairs in a minute." I told him as a code for him to leave and he did. About 30 minutes later I was making my way downstairs to where his parents were and of course his mother welcomes me with a glare.

"It's so nice to see you two this morning." I said cheerfully as his father stood up to hug me. Oliver's father has always been sweet to me in a way he was like the father I never had.

"You look beautiful today." he told me.

"Yes you look lovely but the wedding isn't until next month why are you wearing so much white?" Oliver's mom said finally standing up.

"Next month?" I asked off guard.

"Yes dear it's already all over the news we're thinking about doing an exclusive on the wedding I know how you like the lights." she smiled at me.

I hugged her anyway besides the fact that I wanted to kill her and then smiled back "I was hoping it could be a private thing."

"But it's the happiest day of your life don't you want to remember it well?" She asked giving me a look. She always accused me of being after Oliver's money and being unhappy.

"We can talk about all that later mom." Oliver interrupted.

"Yes of course. why don't you two go take a walk while I speak to Kate about the dress." she said pointing to Oliver and his father.

I gave him a look to let him know it was alright and then they both exited the room. I took a seat at the table and opened up a magazine full of wedding dresses.

"I was thinking something like this." I said pointing to a dress.

"Oh cut the crap Kate. How much will it take for you to leave my son?" She asked me.

"I told you over and over I love him for him." I answered looking up from the magazine.

"Walk away now Kate while you can because if I get the chance I will expose you." She threatened.

"Expose me for what?!" I shrieked. "I have done nothing to you! Or anyone!"

"You'll slip up I already see how you look at Dominic and there was something off about that proposal." she said narrowing her eyes at me.

"You're insane." I replied before standing up and exiting the room. I had no idea what I was going to do about the wedding this was the biggest mistake I ever made.
