During rehearsals, it was a normal occurrence that one of the girls misses their cue, normally Camila, but Lauren was completely focused on what they were rehearsing about 99% of the time. It was pretty rare for her to lose track of what she was doing and then not completely recover. So when the rest of the girls heard a loud yell quickly followed by the sound of someone hitting the ground, they were surprised to see that Lauren Jauregui was the only one who wasn’t on the stage any longer.

In Lauren’s defense, it wasn’t her fault. Ally had just looked so beautiful as she danced around the stage and Lauren couldn’t keep her eyes off of the older girl. She then made a wrong turn, ending with her hitting the floor below the stage. Okay, scratch that, maybe it had been her fault.

She let out a groan of pain when her ribs protested as she sat up. She had landed just right on one of the speakers. Lauren heard several people making their way towards her quickly, shouting and asking if she was okay. Normani and Ally made it to her first and immediately got off stage to help her up while Dinah and Camila looked on worriedly from the edge of the stage, ready to help out if they were needed.

“Oh my god Lauren, you scared the crap out of us! Are you okay?” Ally asked as she and Normani lifted the girl up from the ground. Lauren nodded her head as one of the stage managers made their way to the group of girls.

“Lauren, are you okay? Do you need to take the rest of the day off?” He asked. Lauren shook her head emphatically.

“l’ll be fine. It’s just a little fall. It’s no big deal.” She said waving it off. Everyone slightly hesitated before going back to their places on the stage in order to finish rehearsal.

Lauren had danced and sang through the rest of the songs as if nothing were wrong, but with every move she made her ribs would practically scream in pain. As they finished the last song the girls all filed off of the stage and headed back to the bus to rest.

As they got on the bus, Dinah, Camila, and Normani gathered around the front room and put Mean Girls into the DVD player as Ally dug around through the bathroom and kitchen, looking for god knows what.

“Hey Lolo, you wanna watch a movie with us?” Camila asked as Lauren stepped onto the bus. She forced a smile and shook her head.

“No thanks, I’m probably just gonna head on back to my bunk and read for a bit.” The other girls nodded and simply continued with what they were doing before as the other girl quietly slipped into the back room. She stared at her bunk that was closer to the floor than she would like at the moment.

Dammit. It’s going to suck trying to get down there. She thought to herself.

As she leaned down to open the curtain she let out a hiss of pain and pulled back, bumping into the small person who had been standing behind her. She let out a yelp if pain as she spun around a little too quickly to meet Ally’s concerned brown eyes looking up at her.

“You really should’ve taken the day off after you fell.” Lauren shook her head.

“What? No, I’m fine.” Ally chuckled lightly and opened the curtain to Dinah’s bed, sitting down a small bag and turning back to Lauren.

“You don’t have to lie to me, Lo. I could tell how much you were hurting in rehearsals.” She spoke softly, as if talking to a wounded animal, while she pulled back the curtain on her bunk and moved a few things out of the way. She turned back to the taller girl with a sad smile.

“Get up here.” She said as she patted her hand on her bunk.

“No, really Ally, I’m fine. I just-”

“Get up here.” Ally repeated in a more stern tone, cutting off Lauren. The green eyed girl knew better than to argue with the older girl, so she placed her hands on the edge of the bunk, preparing to lift herself up onto it, and took a deep breath. She felt a soft hand get placed on her back, causing he to turn and connect her gaze with Ally’s.

“Don’t worry. I’ve got you.” Lauren smiled back at Ally and gently pulled herself up into the bunk with a little assistance and lay down on her back. Ally moved to Dinah’s bunk for a moment before returning with her little bag.

“Take off your shirt.” She said as she rummaged through the bag, which Lauren now noticed was a first aid kit. Lauren’s eyes widened and her jaw dropped. Ally looked up at the younger girl and rolled her eyes.

“Just so I can make sure that It’s nothing too serious, Lo. Now take your shirt off.”

Lauren hesitated before slowly reaching down to pull her shirt off. Once her shirt was off, she shifted her body so that she could see how badly it looked. Her ribs immediately protested as she moved and she let out a loud hiss in pain, squeezing her eyes shut, causing Ally’s head to snap up worriedly. She let out a loud gasp and covered her mouth with her hand in shock. The right side of Lauren’s torso was a dark blue and purple color.

“Holy shit. I didn’t realize it was that bad.” She whispered, making Lauren look down at her bruised ribcage. It was unusual for Ally to curse, so when she did Lauren knew that it didn’t look very good. She grimaced at the sight, but her attention quickly turned to Ally as the girl timidly reached out a hand towards the bruises marring Lauren’s skin. She looked towards Lauren as if asking permission, and when she received a small nod, she gently pressed down on them, making sure that nothing was broken. After a moment she stopped and sighed, a small frown making its way across her face.

“I’m pretty sure that nothing is broken but you still should’ve taken the day off, Lo.” She stated sadly. Lauren was about to respond with an apology but Ally continued.

“Sit up so I can wrap this around you.” She said, gesturing to the large ice pack and bandages she had pulled from the first aid kit. Lauren pulled herself up from her position slowly, allowing Ally to carefully place the ice pack against the younger girl’s bruise.

“Hold this still against the bruise.” Ally commanded softly. She wrapped the bandage around Lauren’s stomach tenderly, while also making sure it was wrapped tightly.

Lauren was inspecting the girl’s handiwork when she heard a small sniffle come from beside her. She looked over to see a few tears running down Ally’s face. She carefully brushed them out of the older girls eyes before she scooted over in the bunk. She patted her hand on it, gesturing for Ally to join her. Ally shook her head.

“Please?” She said in a quiet and pleading tone. Ally shook her head again and took Lauren’s hand in her own.

“I don’t want to risk hurting you even more, honey.” Ally whispered. While she adored the term of endearment, it wasn’t what she wanted. Lauren broke out the puppy dog face, complete with a quivering lip and big sad eyes.

“I’ll heal faster if you’re cuddling with me, Allycat.” She tried to resist, but in the end, nobody could resist the brunette’s adorable puppy dog face. She cautiously pulled herself up next to Lauren and pulled the curtain closed behind her. She attempted to keep a safe distance from Lauren, for the taller girl’s own safety, but was quickly pulled closer to Lauren, who wrapped her arms around Ally’s waist and buried her head into the crook of Ally’s neck. She breathed in the smell of the brown eyed girl and let out a content sigh.

“I’m gonna be okay. Don’t worry about me too much.” She said, laughing lightly. Ally pulled Lauren closer to her and smiled.

“I know. Just promise me that next time you’re hurting you’ll come and tell me.” Lauren smiled.

“I promise.” She said. They continued to sit in silence for a few moments before Lauren finally spoke again.

“I love you, Ally.” She whispered, just loud enough for the other girl to hear her as she pressed a soft kiss to her forehead.

“I love you too, Lo.” She may not have meant it in the same way, but it still meant the world to Lauren to hear those words coming from the other girl.
