Mikael was still at klaus's house and he saw a big change in klaus he was more caring compassionate loving he showed mercy he was taking care of elena like she was his queen so he decided to stay at with klaus and not kill him that he would turn his back on bonnie and stefan they figured that out for themselves so they decided to bring back Caroline and damon to help to get elena back as well as Esther to help to break up elena and klaus so that they will have elena back to themselves and stefan will have the love of his life back and in stefans mind elena felt the same way about him but he is being delusional
