She grabs me by the arm and drags me around the field. Everything is dull, there are no flowers, just grass and clouds. So boring and uninteresting, anyone would feel the need to leave and go do something more "thrilling". Yet, I feel alive here, I feel like myself here. I feel thrilled, I feel thrilled with her around.

While yes, the environment around me is dull and "boring", but the girl in front of me is radiant and bright. She's able to light the entire field up. She's the only lone flower in this crazy, boring place.

"Here it is." She said, she pointed at a large tree, and I mean large. It was all wrapped up vines, quite a few were hanging down from the leaves. It was so full of life it almost looked like something from a fantasy novel. Someplace where you would imagine faeries would live in, or that elves would worship or take care of, something so enchanting and mystique. I, admittedly, was a bit entranced by it.

She let go of my arm and I snapped out of my daze. "Wow.. How did you even find this place, Elle?" I asked, a bit bewildered.

"Well, I wanted some quiet time from my family home so I went to my Nana's house. She told me about this place, she used to come here back when she needed some quiet time for her paintings, it was pretty close to her house so, yeah" Elle answered, her voice was a little monotone while speaking, which was a bit odd.

"It's really pretty. Your nana has excellent taste in scenery, heh!" I softly elbowed her arm. I got worried when her voice went monotone so I tried to cheer her up a little.

"Hehe, the finest in the land! Wouldn't you say?" Elle softly giggled along with me. She grabbed my hand again and said "Let's go!"

She led me to the tree. Soon enough we were under the shade of the leaves. I could almost touch the hanging vines with my hand. I looked up and admired the leaves, they were so intricately yes messily around the tree, with tiny rays of light peeking through. It's something about nature which is just.. interesting to me, and Elle knew that very well.

I was still looking around the tree when Elle tugged at my hand again, she said look and pointed right in front of her. She smiled at me and moved her head in the same direction she was pointing at, telling me to go and check it out.

I nodded and she let go of my hand. I walked up to the tree, with the grass and fallen leaves crumpling under my feet. I admit I was a tad bit nervous, I was fidgeting with the ends of my shirt. The wind picked up a little which startled me, my skirt starting to flow a little in the wind.

I came to the place she pointed, which was right in front of the biggest vine on the trunk. The vine was a saturated green, clashing with the dusty brown of the trunk. There were swirly, semi-thick patterns on the trunk, looking like an impressionist painting come to life. I was a bit confused on what Elle wanted to show me, I turned myself towards her with a puzzled look. She giggled a bit, and pointed at the ground.

I looked at the ground and still noticed nothing, so I turned around to the trunk. I saw a little wooden box. It was a plain and simple box, nothing exciting or unique about it. But I recognized it, it used to be my old jewelry box. I remember I used to keep any knick knack or any piece of jewelry I could find in here. It was something that was so important to me as it was a physical copy of my memories.

I had lost it a few years back when moving house. Then, I felt like I had lost everything, I had lost my memories.

I looked shocked, I was so happy yet so confused. How did Elle get my box back? What happened to my box for all these years? What happened to my memories?

My questions ran through my head as I turned to Elle again, with the box in shaking hands. I stared at her once more before asking, "How did you find my box-".

I was cut off by Elle running towards me and hugging me, before running towards me and hugging me tightly, her hands grasping at my shirt as she tucked her head under my neck. She hugged me so quickly I almost dropped the box. I didn't hug her back yet as I was still bewildered by this.

Elle semi-answered my question, "I don't really know, I can explain more as we get home". I was marginally satisfied with her answer and I carefully hugged her back, so as to not damage the box.

After a small while, Elle let go of me. She reached and dug into her pocket, rummaging around for a bit. She then pulled out a golden key, with a heart as the handle. She looked at the key and then at me, and smiled a bit wider. Elle extended her arm towards me, key in hand. I didn't really recognize it at first, but then put two and two together and figured out it was for the box.

I grabbed her hand and held it down, in an interlock. She started tearing up and spoke with a shaky voice.

"Promise me this, Marianne. Promise me that you will not open the box right now. Promise me that you will only open it when we never meet. Promise me that you won't be mad at me. And lastly, promise me that you will remember this place and this day."

Elle started crying. She still tried to keep her smile but it was obvious that she was struggling. I bit my lip, I kept quiet, I didn't know what to say. I was still confused about what was happening. I didn't know what to do at all, all I knew is that I didn't want to let go of her.

But, like the wind, Elle let go of my hand and the key. She let go, one last time.

...

I was alone.
