Abigail was so fucking tired.

She called a taxi as she couldn't afford an ambulance.

Honestly, she wanted to call Valeria instead, but her pride wouldn't let her. This was her private problem.

When they arrived at the hospital, Erica was immediately wheeled into an observing room, while being asked what happened.

No one understood. Her mother became handicapped the moment they collided with another car on the freeway. She shouldn't be able to feel anything at all... At least that's what they said 3 years ago.

Abigail was seated in the lounge with the direction to wait until a doctor comes and tells her what happened exactly.

She was scared. Her mother had spent the entire night in a private room where no one could visit her. It was currently 4 am and these built-in plastic chairs were fucking uncomfortable. The whole place stunk of medicine and disinfectant and the snoring man across her wasn't helping Abigail's nerves either.

Her leg was constantly bouncing, her eyes darting up every time a person walked by. It would've been an understatement to say that she was on the edge... She was ready to explode.

Jumping to her feet, she decided that she had enough. Walking towards the main counter, she could see a tired looking middle-aged woman with her greasy hair knotted on top of her head. She didn't even look up as Abigail arrived. "Good morning, what can I help you with?" she yawned.

"I've been waiting for nine hours now, and I still don't know anything about my mother's condition!"

Looking at the young girl, the woman immediately groaned. "It's you again...I already told you four hours ago that these things take time. I advise you to go home, take a shower and leave your phone number, so we can call you if anything happens."

'I bet she wouldn't be this calm if her mother would be laying in one of these rooms...' Abigail thought upset.

"Listen here, this is totally insane! I can't believe no one knows anything about her condition. She's been here for fucking NINE hours!!!" Abigail raised her voice, which made the security guard inching closer to her. "So, you better get me a doctor or nurse now, or God help me, I am going to look for her myself." The girl was getting hysterical.

She couldn't lose her mother too.

"Miss, I need you to leave the hospital, if you can't keep it down." The guard grabbed her shoulder.

"No, you don't understand, it's my mother we are talking about!" Abigail shook the hand of her shoulder. "I won't go anywhere until I get a normal information." She looked the nurse straight in the eye, who only let out a defeated sigh. "Fine. Sit down and stay quiet, I will run her name through the computer." She started to type, only looking at the girl when she needed her mother's name.

"Erica Moreno."

After two minutes of complete silence, the nurse's bored tone brought Abigail back to earth. "She is fine, her status is 'waiting for operation' so she can go relatively quick."

"Operation?" the girl yelled out frightened.

"Yes, scheduled today at 5pm."

"Which room is she in?" Abigail was almost on top of the counter, trying to take a peek, but the nurse pushed her away. "I can't give you any more information, but only an hour before the operation. The surgeon will consult with you at 3 pm, so go home pack some things and come back after that."

The nurse shut their conversation by turning her back to the girl. "I will be back by 3." Abigail said to the woman and left the hospital.

She needed to catch the bus.
