"Say ahh." The doctor says politely. I open my mouth and repeat after her. My gaze drifts to Daren who is having a fit of the giggles right next to my bed. I narrow my eyes as he covers his mouth with his hand.
"Everything seems perfectly normal." She smiles at me. I smile back, but when she turns around I screw my face up and stick my tongue out at Daren. He sticks his tongue out back at me.
As we walk out of the hospital wing, I start to think about reality. I stop walking.
"Daren, when do I get to go home?" Daren turns around, his face contorted into a look of disbelief.
"Are you serious?" He asks walking up right in front of me. "You're in this now. You know the world that we have tried so hard to hide from all humans." He looks disgusted once he starts talking about my kind.
"Yeah but what about my parents? They'll think something's wrong, they'll call the police, and then the police will get involved! It will be a whole mess!" I heave in a breath after my rant. My arms fly all around as I talked, but now they lay motionless at my side. He just looks at me through slitted eyes, calculating my every move.
"You don't understand." Daren begins, rubbing his jaw. "The E.C. vampires are bad."
"You don't say." I mumbled as he held up a hand to stop me.
"No, seriously. If they get even a whiff of your smell, if you take one step outside, they will kill you. Rip out your throat and take ever drop of blood out of you." He looks at me, one hand on my shoulder, the other in the air as he tries to explain this to me.
"Okay, okay!" I hold up my hands in defeat. And all of a sudden I feel my stomach turn. I clutch my sides and kneel down closer to the ground. I gasp for air, black dots appearing before my eyes, and my mouth feels full of cotton.
"Felicity? Are you okay?" Daren squats down next to me. My face burns red as I push away from him. His voice reaches my ears it I can't understand what he is saying. A buzzing is slowly filling my ears as every limb in my body begins to spasm. I can't control my body, my brain isn't working, and my heart lurches, beating faster than what is possible. I can't feel anything anymore.
But I can feel myself blinking hard, and on the brink of fainting. But before I go I see a blurry figure burn into my mind whenever I close my eyes. The blurry figure comes into focus but I don't know who it is. A mask covers their face, but I don't try to see who it is. Instead I stare at the crumpled figure lying next to it. Blood oozing from their open wounds. Not their, but me.
And then everything goes dark.
