THE FIRST DAY of school always gave Vienna the jitters. But this time, it was different. This was her first day of school at her new school in the Valley. From now on she was a West Valley High Mountain Lion. And she would show everyone what she could do.
"If anything bad happens, just call me," Shane told his daughter as he pulled up in front of the school.
"I know," Vienna replied, they still hadn't made up after their small fight.
"I love you, Vi, you know that." Her father sighed and kissed the side of her head.
"I do." Vienna smiled softly before unbuckling her seatbelt.
"Now, go show West Valley High what the Brands are good at." Her father smirked.
"Being the best." She fists bumped her father before getting out of the car. She walked to the building and took a deep breath. "To a fresh start." She whispered to herself and entered the school. She was wearing an outfit that showed her personality but also made her feel comfortable. She had a striped cropped T-shirt, some baggy jeans and her mom's old pink hoody.
"Vi!" Moon came running towards the girl and hugged her.
"Hey, Moon, excited for the year?" Vienna asked her friend with a giddy smile.
"I should be asking you, it's your first ever year here!" Moon exclaimed with excitement but Vienna's smile fell when she locked eyes with Miguel.
"Vien," He smiled at her and walked towards her. Moon noticed how Vienna wasn't wearing the same smile and placed her hand on her shoulder.
"I'll leave you two." She said and left.
"Vien, I've been texting you like crazy," Miguel started as he hugged Vienna but she didn't hug back. "Where were you after the party? I was so worried." He added and only then noticed Vienna's face.
"I know you kissed Sam," She revealed right of the bat, what was the point of hiding it. "Why?"
"Vienna, I promise you, it's not what it looked like," Miguel started as worry painted his face while all Vienna could show was hurt.
"Then what did it look like?" She shot back with anger.
"Please believe me when I say that she kissed me and I immediately pulled back. I told Sam I'm with you and I'm happy with you," Miguel rambled and took Vienna's hands, one still in a cast, looking directly into her eyes. "Vien, I'm really, really happy with you." He told her and Vienna could only read the truth.
"I want to believe you," She whispered as her heart and head were fighting over what to do. "And I do, but I just, I—" She stuttered as she couldn't find the right words.
"I understand," Miguel interrupted her. "You need some time."
"Miguel, I believe you, I really do, but what I saw hurt me a lot." Vienna sighed as she was still holding Miguel's hands.
"And you are absolutely allowed to think that. But I don't like Sam, I like you," Miguel laughed softly. "I like you and your weird obsession with bugs, I like you and the way your nose crinkles when you laugh, I like you and how you look at the tiny details. Vienna, I like you because showed me how to use my heart. You showed me... you." When he was done all Vienna could do was look up at him.
