I settled in the bus seat and leaned my head back. Another draining day in high school and on top of that, I was forced to ride the public bus home. Alright yeah.. pity party for me, whatever. We stopped after about three minutes, and a girl, possibly older than me, shuffled on and sat next to me. She looked at me with blood shot eyes. There was a look of terror and.... something else I couldn't quite put my finger on.
"Please help me. I beg of you from the bottom of my heart. I am going to die tomorrow if I don't get a new kidney. Please." The lady pleaded to me, tears streaming down her dirt caked face.
I was stunned silent. My parents don't care much about me, so that's not the issue. But I wasn't sure that I was ready to give a piece of my body to a woman who's name I don't even know. But I wise person once told me that the only way to make a difference was to take a chance.
"Ah, sure. Um.. how??" I stammered, still in shock from the request.
"Oh God bless you, sister. God bless your soul." The woman said, her face breaking out into a smile. "Just get off of the bus with me and we can go to the hospital together." She finished with a slighly malicious smile. But I brushed it off.
"Ah. Okay."
We sat there for 10 more minutes, in an awkward silence. The mystery woman kept giving me weird glances and smirking.
Maybe this was a bad idea.
