Elena stepped towards her door. Excitement was bursting out of her. She reached her hand out and touched her doorknob. The glowing became brighter! She gasped. I kind of wish the sun could be up now so everyone could see me. Elena thought. Suddenly, everything was bright. Elena squinted in the sudden brightness. She looked up and saw, through squinted eyes, that it was suddenly the middle of the day.
Ack! Where's the moon? She thought. The sun suddenly disappeared, replaced with the moon. Then her door shone brighter than ever. Yellow spark-things burst from it, revealing her sitting, controlling the sun and moon. Wow! She thought. She turned her doorknob and walked into her new room. It started forming around her. At first, it looked like it was going to be a normal room with pictures of the sun and moon, but then in transformed into and amazing, wide-open cave with a huge sun and moon floating and orbiting the center, where there were maps, charts, solar system paintings, a telescope that pointed to a whole in the top of her room, and a little solar system mobile hanging above a star-themed bed.
"Wow!" She said. "It's amazing!" Said Abuela. "Everyone, come, gather 'round, we need a picture!" The Madrigals gathered around her. "La Famila Madrigal!" Everyone yelled as the picture was taken. Elena noticed Mirabel looking sad in the back of the crowd. "Prima, get over here!" She yelled. Mirabel looked up. Elena motioned for her to come over. Mirabel walked over to her. "Cool new power." Mirabel said sadly. "Right?! I can control the sun and moon! I can- oh, sorry for bragging, I know it must be hard seeing me get my power when you didn't get yours." Elena apologized.
Mirabel sighed. "You know what? It's ok. I'm happy for you." She smiled. "Hey, Mirabel, you want to sleep with me tonight? I mean, I'm used to not sleeping alone so... I just wanted to sleep with you one last time." Elena offered. Mirabel grinned. "Sure."
"Speaking of my bed, let's go check it out!" Elena grabbed Mirabel's had and ran to the center of her room. "I think my favorite part might be the telescope. I just love astronomy!" Elena said. Mirabel walked over to a painting labeled 'Ursa Major'. "Cool." She said. Elena ran and jumped onto her bed. "Oh my gosh this is so comfortable!" She exclaimed. "Oooo your right!" Mirabelle said as she sat on the bed.
Elena hopped up and ran over to the telescope and looked through. "I can see Ursa Major, Ursa Minor, and Leo!" She said excitedly. "Man, this room is so cool, right Mira?" Elena said. When she looked back at her bed, Mirabel was gone. Elena sighed. Elena, did you have to brag so much? You knew tonight would be hard for her, and you just made it worse! Great going! Elena scolded herself before she realized that Mirabel was just under the covers. "Mira?" Elena said. "Out of all the rooms, I think this one is super cool." Mirabel said, uncovering her face
...
Once all the people left, Elena was exhausted. She flopped down in her bed. But by then, it was dawn. She grumbled and made the sun go down to keep the moon up for an extra hour or two. She woke up late in the day. Mirabel was back in the nursery by now. Elena sat up and stretched. When she looked around her awesome new room, she saw a big, thick notebook on an easel with a pencil had appeared overnight with a note on it. She got up and walked sleepily over to it. It read, 'Elena, congrats on your gift! I got you this so you could draw some constellations! I hope you like it! -Bruno' Elena smiled. She walked over to her telescope and looked at Ursa Major. She started sketching it out.
She ran to the door once she was done, feeling very hungry. "Morning, Casita!" She said when she got out of her room. The tiles on the floor of the house started going up and down as a 'Good morning!'. She went to the table and saw Mirabel putting plates down. "Hola, Mira!" Elena said. "Hola, Elena!" Mirabel said, finishing up the table. Casita poured coffee into cups and let Mirabel set them on the table. "What's for breakfast?" Elena asked. "I don't know." Mirabel answered.
