I sat in my living room glaring at my phone. No one had liked the picture of the cat with eyebrows that I posted on Instagram. At least I didn't take any ridiculous selfies.

Everyone around me was chattering about life and news. I was stuck in the middle of my family’s yearly reunion.

"Tag you're it!!!" Little Joey screamed while poking me and running away. That's the thing about my family, I'm either too young to hang out with the adults or too old to hang out with the kids. I was in the middle. Too young for the adult table, too old for the kids table.

I slowly got up and made my way outside where all the kids were running around.

"You're it." I said with absolutely no enthusiasm, while tapping Kayla, my cousin, on the shoulder. She screamed and ran after some other kid.

I went back inside to the yakking of the adults.

"Hey Mona! Over here!" I turned to see my aunt Melissa talking to some other relatives. I trudged over wondering what rude thing she was going to say. She was always saying I should lose weight, wear more makeup, jewelry, better clothes, etc.

"Hi Aunt Melissa." I gushed through forced smile. She beckoned me over to sit next to her. I glanced around the room looking for an excuse to walk away. Sadly, there was none. I reluctantly sat down.

"Oh sweetheart you're so tall! You look beautiful. When did those knockers grow in?" I was shocked. But I didn't blush. I never blushed. I don't think I really got embarrassed. She never said anything nice to me and now she was telling me I looked beautiful and my boobs were big? Was that even a compliment?

"Um, I got my growth spurt about a year ago. I guess that's when um," I looked down. "These grew too."

My aunt Melissa smiled. Not an evil smile, but a nice one.

"So have you got a boyfriend?" She sweetly asked.

"Nope, I'm a free woman!" I stated, a little too loud. I hadn't had a boyfriend since junior high and he just used me to get another girl jealous.

"My good friend has this boy about your age! You two would get along perfectly." Oh no. A set up. I hated them! My mom always set me up with weirdos. They always tried to show me their booger collections and what not.

Being the well-mannered young lady I was, I agreed. "I would love to meet him!" I spoke with a little bit too much enthusiasm.

My aunt scribbled down a number and told me that he would call me tomorrow. Figures. She set me up even before she asked me. I nodded and politely excused myself.

I made sure no one saw me and ran for the door. Once outside I felt free. I walked down my street while trying to unwrap my headphones.

"Bleh. Stupid headphones. Why can't you unwrap yourselves?" I muttered to myself. I finally got them out of their humongous knot and stuck them in to my ears. I scrolled through my music, searching for the perfect song for this occasion. I finally choose one and pressed play. The music flooded my ears and I started to mouth the lyrics.

I arrived at Starbucks in 15 minutes. Starbucks was very close to my house. The people that worked there all knew me because I went there at least once a day. I felt like such a white girl every time I went there.

"Hey Jim! I'll have the usual!" I yelled over the blender. Jim was 19 and worked at Starbucks since he was 17. Jim was attractive but he wasn’t my type. He had brown eyes and shaggy brown hair. He had a face that always seemed mad. He had a crooked nose, probably from breaking it, and thin lips.  Jim nodded and asked for my card. I had a special Starbucks gift card that I would put money on every month.

My phone vibrated. I checked and saw a text from my dad. "Help me! Your grandma won't stop teasing me! How'd you escape?" I giggled. My grandma was always telling my dad he was chubby ever since he was little.

"Lmao dad! I'll get you a latte. Love ya!" I looked up and saw Jim putting whip cream on my frappé.

"Here ya go milady. Anything else?" Jim asked as he handed me the cup. "Just a triple grande nonfat latte, please!" I smiled.

*5 minutes later*

I headed out of Starbucks with a cup in each hand. I walked towards the back of the plaza. I always took a shortcut through the back.

I jumped from the sound of something falling. I turned around to see a guy on the ground. I wasn’t really surprised. I would have just called 911 and left because drunken people were always falling from the roof. Every Friday the plaza would host massive parties and allow people up on the roof. I took out my phone getting ready to call the authorities, when curiosity got the best of me and I approached the fallen man.

This man wasn’t a man at all. He was a boy. A boy who looked my age. Something about him was different. Something about the way he looked.
