Alex was created by Notch to be Steve's second companion and possible love interest. This is where we left off the last chapter.
Five years to the day after Steve was given the breath of life, Notch carefully created and sculpted another player with strawberry-gold hair, pale skin, deep green eyes, and a rustic, earthy clothing pallet. He then placed her down on the island, gave her the breath of life, and presented her to Steve.
After this point, there is literally nothing to go on except stereotypes, rumors, and trying to piece her origins and story out of Steve's lore and theories. There are many bits of guesswork and grey areas, yes, but you can conclude some basic facts.
Firstly, Alex was a loner. She and Steve were good friends, but she was often on her own in the woods exploring and looking for new places to build at. She wasn't a hunter until much, much later after the great duel of Herobrine. She would go missing for long periods of time just as often as Steve. She didn't like anybody controlling her and was rather feisty.
We also know that the two got into a lot of fights, and if they ever had any kind of romantic relationship according to most sources they broke up only a few days later - usually because Steve did something Alex didn't like.
Secondly, she never came to love Steve in any way.
It's possible at one point she liked him, but not much and not for long. We know later on, she didn't completely trust him and they were often painted as rivals - they were what can easily be assigned as 'frienemies'.
However, if you look at Steve's theories you know he loved her for a long time and tried to impress her multiple times. But this usually ended up pushing her away farther, forcing Alex to generate a rift of mutual dislike between the two after some time. She was completely oblivious and merely thought of Steve as a ridiculous, pompous show-off.
Thirdly, she is not present in most of Steve's accounts for the majority of the story. She was not involved in any of his projects and had no idea what was going on in his secret lab. She was off on a big build without even thinking about Steve for days at a time.
This begs the question, did she know what Steve was doing? Was she not present because she didn't know where he was or what he was doing or was it because she suspected something and wanted to stay as far away as possible?
We know she and Notch developed a closer friendship than Steve and he had after Rana's demise. We also know Notch loved her very much... to the point he created the starts for her and formed an entire dimension merely as a spontaneous present to her.
So if she knew what was going on, we can assume she would probably want to tell Notch, for Steve's safety and her own. Unless... she wanted Steve and Herobrine to have a dispute after it was too late. The event would cement her place as Notch's favorite, maybe earn her more presents or power because Notch pitied her, or even prompt Notch to create more people when she became lonely.
However, we also know that according to the records, Alex was kind, mellow, and she would have given her life to protect Steve. It's possible she did know and was hiding it from Notch to try to keep him out of trouble. Buy him time. Then again, it's worth considering that she didn't actually know at all, as originally expected.
As we know, Alex was not a part of the Great Duel in any way. What we don't know is how Alex somehow escaped the Nether before the great duel destroyed it.
Either way - if Steve warned her, or if she heard the bedrock being blasted away above her head, or even if Notch somehow sent her a warning signal or even if she just happened to have gone back to the overworld at the time, Alex managed to narrowly escape through the portal before Steve and Notch had taken their fight into the now-hellish dimension.
Alex wasn't involved in the great duel, and from Steve's story, we know she wasn't any kind of key player in the creation of the island. She was created to be Steve's companion - his second in fact, she was a simple explorer who never found important things on her journeys, and the very fact she survived the duel was purely coincidental.
So then why is she such a key player in the grand timeline of Minecraftia? The answer is her important leadership role in the future civilization and simply her feminine nature. Alex, titled the 'First Minecraftian' and 'Mother of Minecraftia', was the leading force for so many generations after the most famous creation and the battle of Herobrine.
Does this make her just as crucial to the storyline as Steve? Considering our present facts, definitely. But after the next facts are unveiled it's not as sure an answer.
Alex is generally thought to be the first 'mother' in Minecraftia. Whether it was Steve or the lesser-known or considered Bob, she is thought to have had the first Minecraftian child. Not so. You see, Bob may have been Steve's last project, a friend for himself... or he may have been much, much more.
We already know the battle that was fought in the mountain shook the very borders and chains of the world. They shattered and shook the universal guidelines that governed Minecraftia. This means that Steve's last project, a genius invention was let loose.
Yes, spawns. Bob could easily have been naturally 'spawned' into the game sometime after the battle of Minecraftia. It is actually more likely considering if Bob had been being perfected in a cage in Steve's workshop it's unlikely with his limited knowledge - and Steve's own limited knowledge, he would have been able to survive the explosions from the battle and the hostile mobs that would escape along with him.
Only a precious few of the hostile mobs managed to escape - skeletons, creepers, and zombies are only a small percentage of the sheer amount of vile creations Steve had shaped inside his hidden bunker.
Instead, it's more likely Bob spawned in about a month later after Notch had departed and Alex was left on her own. He spawned at about midday or noon, as Steve had decided, and had been naturally generated by the code-like magic Steve had written out in invisible letters across the generation of the world.
And he was not the first. We know Alex saved him and brought him home, and we have to draw the conclusion that the two had the first of the rest of Minecraftians to follow with each other if we conclude Alex and Bob were the only Minecraftians left.
But if more spawned in, and it's quite likely that the spawns started quite frequently before decreasing over the centuries until only one player naturally spawned in every blue moon, then Alex may not actually be the mother of Minecraftia.
In fact, there is no article of history pointing to the fact that Alex and Bob were any more than good friends. It's more than likely that it was the first spawns who populated Minecraftia. We know that the Minecraftians after that point could breed freely as well as really on a fresh stream of spawns that wouldn't dwindle for the next thousand or two years.
And truthfully, at this point we have to stop and note that the spawns were just as powerful as any average Minecraftian - they were no different from Alex and Steve, in fact, some were even stronger all things considered!
That means that like the previous Minecraftians, they were designed to live for long periods of time, to be able to survive in incredible conditions, and to have their own conscience and choices. The only way they could die as if they were killed, so before the escape of Steve's hostile mobs, Minecraftians were quite immortal.
So do these details make Alex just as crucial to the storyline and Destiny of Minecraftia as Steve? We'll investigate the details of Alex's leadership, life, future, and legacy in the next chapter of Minecraft Lore before we make a final conclusion.
