Author's note: Welcome to the mess! Basically, chapters 6 and 7 happen sort of at the same time and I was trying to weave them together and... I just couldn't get it to work. So this chapter will feel long compared to the others. Sorry about that!
Most hotel beds aren't big enough for the three of them to be comfortable, and yet they somehow feel empty when one of them is missing. When he and Sasha went to the bedroom, they both noticed the lack of Becky, of course, but soon enough they were lost in each other. Now that they have no more condoms and are drifting in and out of sleep, though, Becky's absence is even more noticeable. Seth is so used to having her curled up by his side that he feels a chill, even though Sasha's pressed against his other side and they're covered with blankets. Normally Becks is the cold one, Seth thinks with a bittersweet tinge. If she knew he had caught a chill, she would probably laugh. No, he corrects himself quickly. She'd be worried something was wrong with me.
He's glancing at the bathroom door, wondering if Becky got up early to do her pregnancy tests, when Sasha starts to wake. "Where's Becks?" she asks, wiping at her bleary eyes with one hand and planting the other on Seth's chest so she can see the other side of the bed.
Seth tugs her hand from his chest, making her topple onto him. "I thought I heard a door a while back. She's probably in the sitting room." He brings Sasha's hand to his mouth and kisses it before wrapping his arms around her. "Why are you up? If you want another round, it'll have to be hands or mouths," he adds, "because we ran out of condoms, remember?"
Sasha nods and sighs. "I know it's late," she says at last, turning her head to look at the bedside table where her phone is charging. "But I need to do something. I could text a few people now and try to get a head start. If we spend the whole morning making calls," she complains, "then it'll probably be at least another day before we can actually get Becky to a witch...."
"Is that necessarily a bad thing?" Seth leans over and kisses her shoulder. The sex was incredible as always and did wonders to distract them—at the time. Now all their worries creeping right back in. "I know we need to get answers quickly, but she'd probably feel more comfortable with someone she knows, wouldn't she? Or at least someone one of us knows. I don't know any supernaturals around here. Do you?" That he doesn't know isn't a stretch. He didn't grow up in a pack environment like she and Becky did, so he's still building up a network of supernaturals; even there, he relies largely on Becky and Sasha's contacts and only reaches out when necessary.
"I know. But the full moon is so close. I don't know what would happen if she would shift while she was pregnant—if she's pregnant," Sasha amends quickly. "Even a day or two could make a difference, so if we get to a witch—any witch—we'll at least know...." She trails off, patting his chest the way some people knock on wood for luck. "At least we'll know which direction to go next." She sits up and scoots to the edge of the bed, putting herself just out of Seth's reach. "I'm just going to text a few witches now," she says, grabbing her sleep shirt from her bag. "I won't be long."
Most times, Seth doesn't know why she—or any of them, really—bothers packing pyjamas, since they usually all end up sleeping naked anyway. Easier to lounge in, I guess, he thinks as he watches Sasha pull the shirt on. Easier to focus on things other than sex. He stretches as he sits up against the headboard, flinching slightly when Sasha turns on the bedside lamp. "It's late," he reminds her. "You said so yourself...."
"I know, but...." Sasha gives a sharp shrug as she enters her phone password and opens her texting app. "It'll make me feel better," she adds simply, "and a bunch of them are in different time zones anyway, so they could be awake. I mean, isn't the Witching Hour between three and four in the morning or something?" She glances at the phone and sees that it's just after two. "I won't be long," she repeats, thumbs hovering over her screen. "I'm just going to text a few people."
