A girl was awakened from her trance by the subtle rustles of wind. She sits on top of the bridge's guard rail while staring at the scenery before her for only God knows how long. It was alluring in her eyes. The setting pulls her in, like a soft voice calling for her soul to be one with it. Once again, she was lost in her own thoughts, black orbs fixed on the orange-tinted sea and sky. I can't help but admire this scene. It must be good to get lost while the sun is setting.
Suddenly, she was once again awakened from her train of thoughts. Like an unannounced pull, getting sucked by a random force away from her own created world. Someone just suddenly back hugs her, and what shocked her the most were the words that left the stranger's mouth. Wtf
"Hey, don't! Just don't! You're still young. A bright future is waiting for you! Don't jump, don't end your life. Y-you can talk to me, yeah, so please stop what you are---"
The girl cut off the stranger's rambling, even if she was too shocked to react. Being annoyed was also an understatement. Someone just assumed she's gonna commit suicide. Well, maybe she had thoughts. But still, being hugged by some random person irks her. But wait, her voice is familiar.
"What the fuck are you talking about?! And let me go. You've got it all wrong!"
"I-I-I w-what?" Confusion and shock were written all over the stranger's face, and it transitioned to embarrassment. Oh my god, this is awkward. What the heck am I doing?
"Y-you're n-not you know gonna you know---"
"Yes, I'm not! And please, you haven't let go of me yet."
The stranger somewhat pulled out harshly, causing the girl to almost lose her balance.
"I, Omg! I'm sorry, I thought you were gonna jump. You've been staring out of nothingness. Like you know you're being pulled, and you seem like--" She was rambling again. While looking at her shoes like something was interesting about them, the girl had to stop her for the second time.
"Okay, I get. You got the wrong idea and just want to stop me from 'jumping', yet how ironic it is that you almost killed me by pulling your arms harshly.", said the girl while she was rolling her eyes and sarcasm was evident in her tone.
The girl had her eyes wide open from the remark. "Oh my God, I didn't mean to. I was, you know, embarrassed. Shit! I ALMOST KILLED YOU!"
"Yes", answered the girl while blankly staring at the stranger when she realized something. Wait, she's no stranger at all. That is why she sounds familiar.
"Wait. Aren't you that Ahn Yujin?"
"Woah, I can't believe that the Jang Wonyoung knows my name. But hey, what do you mean by 'that Ahn Yujin'?"
"That annoying and loud classroom president Ahn Yujin," Wonyoung said while clicking her tongue.
Yet, instead of getting offended by those harsh words, she had a cheeky smile. "Damn, rumours are indeed true."
"What rumours?" Not that she's not aware she just want to hear it from someone face to face. She's been exhausted with people talking behind her back.
"That you have a sharp tongue, you're cold and rude."
She's aware of it but still "what the f-"
"Don't worry, I don't mind. I actually find it cute."
"What?" Wonyoung what's taken aback from what she just heard. What the hell is she saying?
"You acting rude when in fact, you're not."
"You're weird."
"Indeed I am. Anyways it's getting dark. Wanna go home together?"
"No"
"I don't take no for answers. Besides our house, just you know, facing each other.
"What?! How come I don't see you often?" Shock was an understatement as she had her eyes wide open and mouth agape.
It is the second time Yujin has seen Wonyoung show expression aside from her cold stares. She has these walls that you can't easily breakthrough. Got these cold stares, blunt remarks and a world created solely for herself. She doesn't let anyone in. Not that she doesn't have friends, but Wonyoung is picky, and that's why some of the students, primarily girls from their grade, despise her.
Also, it didn't help that she was pretty and intelligent because everyone was jealous of her. That made them spread rumours like wildfire to make themselves feel good. 'Rude', 'A rotten princess' and 'A witch in disguise' they say.
It made her smile, knowing that she made Wonyoung paint another expression that people hadn't seen before.
"You know you've been caught up in your own little world that you haven't noticed even once in those 3 years! That I'm your neighbour and is always walking behind you, Jang Wonyoung."
"Stalker." The only word that left her mouth. She doesn't want to argue anymore. She's right. She's always caught up in her own little world. "Suit yourself.", She added and started walking.
The whole walk was filled with Yujin being the typical fluffball and loud human while Wonyoung is giving annoyed and sarcastic remarks.
"See you tomorrow? Let's walk together again!" Yujin said expectantly while looking at Wonyoung's back, who was about to open their front door.
Wonyoung sighed, she was tired from all the talking Yujin did a while ago, and she's going to experience it all over again tomorrow. She's too lazy to prepare super early just to avoid Yujin, and even if she declines right now, Yujin will still not take no for an answer. Mentally defeated, Wonyoung turned to face Yujin and said blankly.
"Suit yourself."
With that, Yujin just gave her sweetest smile, a genuine one. It's not subtle that she's looking forward to tomorrow's walk. Finally, I got to talk to you, Jang Wonyoung.
It was the start of something that both of them were unaware of. But hell, what the future holds, what matters is their string of fate have already connected. One is starting to heal, and the other is the opposite.
