It's said that Chaos once reigned over the land many years ago. The titans would destroy everything the mortals created. Whole towns would crumble to dust when Gaea shook even the slightest, freshwater would be evaporated every time Vocanoid had a fit. No where in the world was safe....
Except for one small, acute village. This village was said to be protected by the titans, though no one knew for sure as to why. My grandmother said she grew up there, protected from the dangers of the world. No one was allowed in the village nor out. Once you left a Chaos was free to have you and a harpy would swoop down and drop you off a cliff to your certain death.
My grandmother would tell me of all these tales and many other stories of the olden days.
She would tell me of how their use to be heroes and gods and titans, of how the god of the gods Zeus fought the titan king Kronos. She even told me of the goddess of love, Aphrodite, and how my grandmother had went on a quest to find hydra tears to trade for true love for all her daughters and granddaughters.
I longed to live during my grandmothers time of magic and immortality and all the other impossible things that were possible back then. That all changed when the leader of that small, protected town found out why the town was so important that it needed to be kept safe.
There are many versions of this tale, tho I've always preferred my grandmothers way. She would give such detail that all the other storytellers lacked. You could almost think you were there yourself the way It was told. It all started out during the night of the winter solstice. My grandmother was having the time of her life laughing and dancing.....
(72 years ago)"No I couldn't possibly!" I tried protesting though I could stop from laughing.
"Come on, my sweet! You know this is the best chance we'll get for a long while, we shouldn't waste it" Xavier said with a mischief look in his eyes.
It was my 16th winter solstice since being on this earth. This wonderful earth! Tonight was the night, It was finally the night I've been waiting for since me and Xavier started courting. We planned to take our relationship to the next step, and what better time than the winter solstice!
"What if my mother calls to me and finds us?" I asked, knowing very well she was too busy with the party at our home to even spare a moment thinking of the trouble I was getting into.
"Surely she wont call to you on such a festive night?" He asked, his forehead creasing with the slightest of worry, eyebrows knitted together. I loved when he did that.
"Well....you never know, she might need help with...." I droned on, teasing. He grabbed me by the waist saying, "Oh surely, thats what will happen huh? Is that it?" kissing my neck the entire time, making me squeal.Xavier always had that effect on me. He was strong built with dark brown hair and honey drop coloured eyes. His olive skin complexion made his teeth look brilliantly white. He stood at least 6 inches above me, giving him a look of sheer might. Everyone said we looked great together, that we fit perfectly together. I have soft blond hair with one eye brown, the other green. My grandma told me that it meant I had a gift of seeing the good in people as well as the bad, tho I've never had much luck with that. I have fair skin with a beauty mark above my lip. I was never to skinny nor to large either, just the right size.
"You know the town rules Xavier. Once we do this we're married, no going back." I said, gently pushing him off.
"Hardly! You havent even met my parents," he said laughing at his own dumb joke. The rules of marriage in our town have always been the same, ever since the goddess Aphrodite visited our ancestors. In exchange for the town to stay pure with love, when a woman and man are to be married, first the male has to meet the womans family, share a meal with them and share a bed with each other. Me and Xavier have known each others families since we were children, he's shared plenty of meals as well. The only thing left is to do the do....
"Xavier im being serious..." I said with a frown, hoping that would get his attention.
"I know Lis.... And I want you to be mine, always and forever." He said, all that smug amusement leaving his face in an instant."I love you,Xavier the great"
"I dont know why you insist on calling me that.... It doesnt even make sense! I've done nothing great!" He said with mock anger.
"You treat me like im the greatest thing in the world, and you actually have been there for me unlike the others i've been with. When they hurt me you always helped pick me back up again."
