Vanity looked at himself in the mirror.
Unlike what most smurfs thought, he hated himself.
He hated his body.
He stared at his reflection not to admire himself, but to remind himself how hideous he is.
There were an array of things wrong.
His Chest was never flat enough, no binder was enough to cover his breasts.
Acne was scattered around his cheeks, though he hid it with makeup (yet another reason he'll never be a 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭 boy).
His nose was huge, disproportionate compared to the rest of his face.
All the other smurfs had a bulbous nose as well, but he was supposed to be perfect, he 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘥 to be perfect.
He was named after his Vanity for smurf's sake! What was the point if he couldn't even do that right?
Vanity felt his breathing becoming shallower and shallower as he gazed at the flawed image in front of him.
A sob escaped his throat while tears ran down his cheeks.
He fell to his knees,
He'd be forever flawed, forever a g̶i̶r̶l̶.
He can't change the body he was given.
Sobs continued to ripple throughout his body.
The world around him grew hazy.
𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘬
Light flooded the room.
A fuzzy voice spoke through Vanity's ringing ears.
"-anity? Oh, darling are you alright?"
He recognized that voice.. Farmer?
Farmer's hands grasped his hands firmly.
His vision became clearer and he looked up to see the kind face of the smurf he loved.
But not the smurf he deserved.
Tears threatened to escape his eyes once again, but he held them back.
Farmer couldn't see him like this.
"F-farmer, I, I'm sorry..." He rasped.
"Baby.. what are you apologizing for?" Farmer's voice was warm.
"I-I don't deserve you." Vanity couldn't resist the tears any longer "I'-m not e- even a r-real m-man.."
"What are you talking about? Of course you are!"
Vanity looked down in disgust of his body and then back at Farmer. "J-just look at me, farmer.. "
"What I see, is a smurf that I lovingly call my boyfriend."
"But... I'm not a boy Farmer.. I was born a girl... I'll always be a girl."
"Well, what do you want to be?" The question shocked Vanity, he'd never been asked something like that before.
"I.. wanna be a boy.. but, I still like feminine things... like flowers and make-up..."
"And that's perfectly okay!"
"But.. What if I'm faking it? Am I really trans if I still like the kind of things a girl would like?"
"You don't owe me- or anyone for that matter- masculinity. You're a boy, as long as that's what 𝘺𝘰𝘶 want to be."
Farmer pulled Vanity into a warm hug.
Tears flowed down his cheeks.
"I love you Vanity, I'll 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 love you."
"-Farmer.. I.. I love you too." Vanity whispered.
By now, tears were forming in Farmer's eyes as well.
He gave Vanity a gentle peck on the cheek.
In that moment, all Vanity could feel was love.
He felt light, as though all his anxieties had left him, leaving him only with a warm, fuzzy feeling.
The two smurfs lay kissing on the bathroom floor.
They had each other. And that's all that mattered.
