I sleep with my windows open,
letting the stars lull me to sleep,
keeping me warm and
safe from the shadows
that lurk in every corner of my roomBut dreams, it seems
are the secret yearnings of the heart;
the things that could not be spoken out loud;
the bones hidden in the farthest corner of the closet;
And there, every night, I see you.There is no escape, no control
as everything turns to magic
and it’s you and me again
in our own makeshift world,
where our wrongs are made right
and lingering questions are finally answeredI swear I could feel the heat on my skin
with your every touch;
and the drumming of my pulse
with every word that comes out of your lips
the realest in a temporary blissBut time could only be stretched for so long
until I have to say good bye to you again
over and over
every time I am pulled back to
my tear stained pillows and empty house
