Sophia
“Once upon a time” in a story book isn’t real. Trust me, I know what is real, and
this is my story. This is about my life. So I think it’d be good to start from the beginning; My name is Sophia, both of my parents died from a fire when I was little, I was in the fire too but before they died, they told me that I will always have fire in my hands. At that time I didn’t know what they meant, but now, since I’m 15, I know that it means something. I have brown hair, hazel and a little tint of red in my eyes, and I’m medium height. My guardian is my aunt (Celia). She’s all I’ve got. Even thought I hate her husband, my aunt is good enough for me.
Anyway, I was only 2 when my parents died. I go to high school in California.
But I am constantly moving to one school to another. My aunt was the closest family I had. She used to always tell me stories before bed when I was 10, about how there was a reason why I survived the fire. I wanted to know why I survived, but she always told me that she’d tell me when the time was right.
One day when I was at school, it was super cold out. Instead of going with a sweater I left the house without one. Once I got to the school I saw my friend, Jason. Jason is 16. He was hanging out in the parking lot with his friends. I walked over to him. I was wearing a red bracelet, and a white shirt with black jeans. My brown curly hair fell onto my shoulders and chest, almost hiding my heart necklace that Jason gave me.
I ran inside while pulling his arm to follow me. Technically, Jason and I have been friends since I was 12. Jason was a little taller than me; he had brownish hair, and light green eyes that matched his plaid blue and green shirt with black jeans. Jason was mostly my only friend that I could trust.
Right then and there, my aunt just had to call me. I walked a few steps away from Jason and I answered the phone. She had a shaky voice. Almost panicked?
She said:
“Sophia, I need to tell you something very important. Meet me behind the school in the forest?”
“Yeah sure. I’ll go right now.”
I hung up the phone and looked at Jason and said “Sorry but its really important.. I have to go meet my aunt.”
I ran off and outside again. I walked around the school, careful not to get spotted. I carefully walked into the forest and sat down on a tree stump to wait for my aunt. Sophia suddenly felt her hands tense up and get hot. Sophia looked around for her aunt and finally found her standing next to a tree looking scared for some reason.
“Hey, what is it that you had to tell me..?”
“Sophia. Remember that story that I used to tell you about why you survived the fire and not your parents?”
I nodded slowly.
“I came to tell you the truth about why and how you survived.”
Sophia looked at her waiting.
“Your parents died in that fire because they weren’t Elementals, like you...”
That made her confused. “What’s an Elemental?”
“An Elemental is someone who is gifted at one element: Earth, Water, Air, and Fire.” She said.
“And you’re saying the only way I could’ve survived the fire was because I am gifted with the Fire element?”
“Yes, I’m sorry to say but, you can not tell anyone about your gift. And you will have to move to a special school that knows about Elementals. Don’t worry, regular people are allowed into the school too. So maybe if Jason wants to come he can. But only people at the school will be allowed to know about the secrets of Elementals and their Elements.”
“When do I have to move? And why me? Why can’t I even tell Jason about my Fire ability? How do I use my power?”
“Whoa kiddo. Slow down, one at a time,” She said “You have to move in 3 days. You were born an Elemental. No one can help that. And Jason will have to wait until he either comes to the school or never. Your new school will teach you all there is to mastering the Fire Element.”
Austin
Austin was a normal 16 year-old when all of a sudden things started to pop up in his life that he has never seen before. At the age of 4 his parents were killed in a car accident, ever since then Austin lived on the streets with only him, his guitar, and the Earth. Austin was a tall, muscular, and tan. He had black hair, light green eyes. He lives most of the time in Georgia; he didn’t go to school because he had no money. So for a living, he tried earn money from his guitar playing and his angel-like singing.
One day when he went walking around barefoot with his guitar, he felt at peace, strumming the guitar, he found a forest nearby so he decided to go and look around. He held his guitar around his neck with the strap and stepped into the forest. Instantly he noticed that there were plenty of trees to climb, a little river, a small mountain of rocks and boulders. With grass and flowers every where it just seemed unrealistic to not have seen this all his life instead of the grey, boring city.
Austin set down his instrument and looked around before jumping into the clean river. He didn’t know how long he had gone without a shower or when he’d get another one, so he jumped in happily.
As he was scrubbing away at the dirt on him, the squirrels and chipmunks chased each other up and down trees. A bunny leaped across the clearing and suddenly, a fish swam by Austin. He wished he could stay here forever. Here, in this peaceful forest.
Austin shook out of his trance when a twig snapped. He looked in the direction of where he heard it come from then he saw a person. It was a man... he seems to be in his 20’s. He looked tired. Also a little bit worn out because he had little scratches on his face and bruises and blood on his arms.
The mystery man said: “Austin? Is that you?”
I was surprised. “Uh… Yea I’m Austin, who are you?”
“That doesn’t matter right now, Austin. I need you to come with me. Your life depends on it.”
I quickly got out of the water and felt gravity again when I was out. I grabbed my guitar and walked towards the man.
“Let’s go,” He said. And with that, he flicked his hand then swirled it and suddenly Austin was dry. Was that possible? One second he was dripping wet, the next second later he was completely dry.
The man started to run when they heard loud laughs and screaming. He turned back to look at Austin who was running right behind him. He led him to a big tree that had a small hole in it near the roots. He crawled in side the tree on his hands and knees then begged Austin to follow him inside. Inside the tree it was dark and a little cold, but at least they were safe. The man thought.
Austin stood up and looked down at the man, still on his hands and knees breathing heavily. “Now, who are you? And how do you know me?”
The man sighed. “My name is Iden. I am your protector.”
“Well then Iden, what is it that I should be protected of?”
“I will explain that later but right now we need to head north to New York and find the school.”
“What school?”
“There’s a school in New York that will help you learn about your powers and help you control them more.”
“Powers?! What powers?”
“You remember how at peace you were back at the forest? You were born with the power to control the Earth Element.”
“W- What do you mean?”
“The headmaster of your school will explain it to you later. Right now, just stick close to me.”
By now after he explained some things the screaming and laughter has disappeared. So they decided to walk to the airport and take the next flight to New York.
