"Love is a trap. When it appears, we see only it's light, not it's shadow.'
-Paul Coelho
" Someone told me you're outside with a random guy. "
Her doe eyes blinked rapidly, her heart starts to pump twice faster than usual.
'It's not random guy, well- he-i- is -' she tries to explain but, she too, can't interpret of what she had done or who's the guy that's been luring her to the place where her foot are setting.
'I don't know, Toby.' She mutters softly under her frosty breath as she slowly lifts her gaze. Her pupils dilated slightly as her heart hammering her chest rapidly at the new sight of Toby.
She knew that kind of feeling very well.
She's attracted to his
sudden solemn voice, his dark eyes shadowing her. It feels different, it feels....new. And she favors it.The guy stood before her , pressing his lips together while his chestnut eyes lay on the short, brunette-haired. He heaved a sigh, grabbing her small hands.
'Leilah, I don't want to lose you...again.'
At that time, she hated herself for doing what she has done. Him caring for her, and her- acting like a senseless slut.
"..You won't." She mutters, avoiding his gaze while hugging herself for reassurance. That condemned night, she couldn't even remember it. But the cuts were visible, scars were left permanent, she went through countless therapies, all the while there was Toby- never ceases to care for her. Her mind had pushed that memory far away from her, sealing it away, causing her to forget the incident completely.
She shivered. "Toby, let's go home."
Wrapping an arm around her shoulder, Toby made his way through the crowd. His arm around her was a sign of that possessive feeling he's been battling within, which much to Leilah's surprise, didn't bother her like it usually did.
"I know this might sounds stupid or I could be blind, but I saw your eyes that gives me a glint of hope-'' Toby trails off, sighing. ''Could it be..you're into me ?'' . Leilah blinks her eyes rapidly, her cheeks turn rosy. ''No..yes !'' . Toby pulls away a little and stares at her, a tiny spark of happiness built inside of him. "Yes as in, you're blind. It's night, how could you see such thing in my eyes-'' Leilah lets out a nervous chuckle and escapes herself from his embrace, taking few steps further and quicker. She herself trying to deny that Toby is wrong.
"Leilah," Toby called softly. Leilah's heart did a quick jump, hearing Toby called her name like that had never affected her this much. "You're never this nervous around me." Toby smiled mischeviously , sliding his arm around her waist, pulling her closer to him.
"T-toby- what are you-"
"Shh, just enjoy the moment while you can." Toby whispered in her ear. That did it. Leilah pushed Toby away with all the strength her petite figure could muster. Although her body was protesting, she got out of Toby's grasp, gasping for air.
Her heart was thumping a thousand miles faster than any car would have drove in a minute. She felt blood rush to her pale face, making her avert her gaze away from Toby.
"Come on, Leilah! It's so obvious that you're beginning to like me." He chukles. " Tell me something."
He grabs her elbow and turns her around, staring at her eyes intently. She was still as red as ever, but she glared at him instead. "Tell you what?"
"Is it because of my recently developed abbs and six pack, or is it just me? Do you like me as I am?"
" What? You call that a six-pack? " Leilah laughed. " You're so cheesy. Must've had too much of that Vodka." Although Leilah's voice was cool and casual, Toby didn't know that Leilah was a nervous wreck in the inside.
Leilah snatched her arm away from Toby's grasp, averting her body from him, avoiding any eye contact.
" You know, " Leilah chuckled , " You're like a little brother to me. " She started. The topic came out of the blue. It wasn't her intention to hurt Toby more, but she was the one that needed to be convinced that Toby was like a brother to her. " You'll always be that little kid who cries to me whenever he has bad dreams, desperate for a hug that tells him everything's going to be fine. " Leilah tug on the end of her lips, forming a beautiful smile as her childhood memories with Toby lightened her face.
" And I'd like to keep it that way, Toby. " She muttered, her smile slowly fading as she strolled down the cement pavement.
" Well I don't. I'm not that little kid anymore, Leilah. " Toby clenched his fists. " Why can't you see how hard I'm trying to be a man for you? " he hissed, hurt laced his words. His face was red, both from embarrassment and anger.
" I don't need you to be a man, Toby! Moreover for me. " Leilah snapped, yet her heart says otherwise. She would've blamed it on the beer , that is, if she had even just a tiny sip. But she didn't. She sighed.
" Go home Toby, I don't want to speak with you now. " Leilah said, deciding that it would be best to have this conversation when they're in a calmer state. Besides, this weird tingly feeling when she's with Toby was becoming irrational. She had always thought of Toby as a brother. However, now, she was not so sure anymore.
" Don't tell me what to do Leilah Valentine. " He growled, causing Leilah to jump a little in shock at that animalistic sound. " You're not my sister. "
With that, Toby walked away, leaving a shocked Leilah frozen like a statue on the sidewalk.
It was not Toby's statement that had her mouth agape, it was how manly he sounded. How much he turned her on like a switch.
