"Don't forget to pack your pills, Elle" mom yelled from her room. How could I forget? she reminded me every five minutes. I grabbed my suitcase and purse from off of my bed, I headed down stairs to grab breakfast. "You're going to have so much fun at camp sweetheart" dad sat next to me in the kitchen at the table and started talking. "You're gonna make so many new friends and learn new things--" He was cut off by my mom.
"Elle, Honey the bus is here!" she yelled from the living room. I got up and gathered my suitcase and purse, I made my way into the living room to where my mom was standing with the door open. We all made our way outside. "Okay, bye mom, bye dad" Mom gave me a hug and kiss on my head. I was going to miss them. "Have fun sweetie" Dad hugged me and then I made my way to the bus. "Name?" said the camp counselor. He had dark skin and short Coily hair "Oh, um Elle-- I mean Elizabeth Miller" he looked at me for a while then he began to speak. "Okay Elle, get on the bus" I boarded the bus and looked back at my parents to wave goodbye. I went to the back of the bus and took a seat. I got my phone out of my back pocket and plugged my head phones in and started to listen to music.
"𝐼'𝑚 𝑔𝑜𝑛𝑛𝑎 𝑝𝑎𝑐𝑘 𝑚𝑦 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑏𝑒--" I felt someone next to me take out my earbud, I looked next to me to see a girl. She had light brown skin just like me. Her hair was curly and sandy brown and she had light brown eyes. "Um-" I started. "Hi, I'm Dahlia." She smiled at me and reached out her hand signaling for me to shake it. "I'm Elle." I smiled back at her. "What are you listenin' to Elle?" she grabbed the earbud she pulled out of my ear and put it into hers. I expected her to hear 'I Love You So' by the Walters. She smiled at me again and started to nod her head to the music. "Dude, no way! I love this song." I looked at my phone to see if it was the same song I was listening to before. "Oh, you like Mitski?" I asked looking at her. It was obvious but I asked anyway. "'Like?' more like LOVE, I love her voice and her songs." she replied. "Me too! I thought that not many people listened to her--" I started "She's like my idol, y'know her song 'Me and My Husband'?" she asked. "UM yeah!" I shouted.
We laughed at how excited I got. We talked some more until we reached the camp. "Okay guys we have arrived." I looked out of the window at the camp, it was nice. "There will be no phones during your stay so when you get out of the bus make sure to put your devices into the box over there right on the table, thank you." the counselor yelled making sure all of the kids on the bus heard him. "Ugh why do we have to give you our phones?" Dahlia yelled out. "What if we get seriously hurt? Or like what if we're on the verge of death? then what?" she continued. "Dahlia, you do this every summer." I heard a voice from in front of us, it was kind of deep. "We have to give up our phones so that--" A boys head popped up from the seat and turned to us. "So that we can learn to have fun without using technology, I know Luke." Dahlia cut him off.
Luke, He had honey blond hair and deep dark brown eyes and sort of pale skin. "Okay everyone stand up and when I call your name get off of the bus" The counselor started to say the names. "Hey, I'm Luke" he reached out a hand for me to shake it like Dahlia did when she introduced herself earlier. "Elle" I replied shaking his hand. He looked at me for a while then smiled. "Ew Luke stop making heart eyes at my new bestfriend" I laughed at Dahlias comment and Luke blushed. "Luke Bailey" the head counselor called out. "That's me, see you guys out there" he got out of his seat and walked out of the bus, I looked out of the window and saw the boy walk up to the table and drop his phone into the box.
"Dahlia Jones" I watched dahlia get up from her seat and walk out of the bus, She walked towards the table and dropped her phone into the box with an attitude. About two more names were called and then I heard mine. "Elizabeth Miller" I got up from my seat and got off of the bus. I walked over to the table already knowing the drill dropping my phone into the box. "Ah, Elle you made it." Dahlia said walking over to me. "Yeah, so what do we do now?" I asked her while looking around. "See those barn-like houses over there?" She asked. "Uh yeah." "well there are about 6 of those, 3 houses for girls and 3 houses for boys. The head counselor will give us a number and that's the number house we'll stay in for, fun right?" she explained. "Yeah" I looked at her and smiled.
"Okay campers, listen up" the sound of the head counselors voice startled me. "I'm going to hand out numbers to everyone and which ever number you get, that's which house you will be staying in. As you can see the counselors have a number taped onto their chest so, if your number matches the counselors they will be your counselor for the summer the girls will go first" Dahlia looked at me with a smile and I smiled back. The counselor began to pass out numbers to the girls. After a while he finally made his way over to where Dahlia and I stood and gave us both a number and we were quick to look at them.
"What number did you get?" Dahlia asked looking over my shoulder. "One, what about you?" I answered turning my head to look at her. "Man, I got three" she answered. She turned to the girl that was standing next to her. "Hey, Callie want to switch?" she asked her while holding up the paper with her number on it.
"Sure" Callie started, "I don't care, I don't even like camp" they switched numbers and soon after the counselor finished handing out the numbers. "Okay campers find your counselors" he said. We went over to the counselor that matched the number on our papers. "Hi everyone, I'm going to be your counselor for the summer I'm Enya" The girl had shoulder length red hair and green eyes. She had white skin and a nose ring, and she wore heavy eyeliner. "I might look like the type but I promise I'm not gonna drain your blood and sacrifice it for eternal life" she joked. We all laughed at the joke and we then followed her into our cabin.
