Driving...thats where Subject O was. In a car. With The Prayer. He had stopped praying, though, and now stared forward in grim determination. Why was she here? One second, she had been laughing with her twin, Benjamin. The next she had been lying on this bedlike contraption, with two wires on each side of her head going into her...skull. She'd eaten some food, passed out and voila! No wires. Plus, Benjamin was her other half. Where was he? Where was she? What was happening? She was so confused. Nothing made sense.
The Prayer suddenly spoke. "I know you must be confused. I am Professor Wineheart, an we were recently at Clotile University. We were conducting an experiment...on you. I took you with me and fled, because something went wrong and you woke up. I was acting on some random impulse. Which I will pay for soon," he added, so quietly Subject O thought she hear him wrong. "We believe your name is Kane. Kane O. You were selected from all of the donors."
"Wait a moment, sir." Kane interrupted. Then she did a double take. Sir?! Where had THAT come from? "you should always respect your elders" sang a voice in Kane's head. As if she remembered it from a sort of-dream. Strange. Anyways, Kane said "Donors? What do you mean...donors? What about my family?"
"I mean exactly what I say, Subj--Kane. It was us or an orphanage. And about your "family", if you'd let me finish explaining the experiment, I'd tell you.
We--the government and our university--adopted you. The experiment was to see how and/or if we could map out your entire life, and add all of the drama we wanted. How we did it was quite simple. We drilled a hole in your skull, and implanted a series of electrodes in your brain, i.e. the area where you see. Using the latest advanced technology, we transmitted basically an above-average 3D movie straight to you. We also sent smells to you. We gave you many different scenarios, and you performed better than we had expected. Much, much better. It was amazing. But to answer your earlier question, you have no family. No twin. No nothing. We also have no idea why you woke up. Very few do. About 2.81% of all."
Kane sat, stunned. No family? No nothing? And yet, somehow you knew it all along, a voice in the back of her head said. You knew something wasn't right. Benjamin didn't act right. How did you know? She asked herself. How did you know?
