I sat on my bed, my shoes sitting inches away from just getting kicked off. My mind seemed to race with completely blank thoughts, my heart seemed to burst with absolutely no emotion. I had the most interesting but boring day. Nothing new happened.. unless you count the fact that every day was different in its own way. Which technically is true but I'm focusing on big things. My body always seemed to feel absolutely nothing in the strongest ways possible. I shrugged it off and threw my legs over the side of my bed, flopping backward and finally letting my tense body relax. But I tensed up again when starting to realize the constant feeling of being watched. Everyone always felt that way, it became normal. And my mind was always busy and used to it but now that there was nothing to think about that was the first thing. Though it was a feeling I grew up with, and everyone else in this stupid town, I'd still notice it every day and it was the worst feeling ever. You just know something is watching you even when you're standing alone in a completely empty room. My phone buzzing from being set to silent pulled me from my thoughts. I switched off silent mode and checked whatever the notification was. It was a text from my best friend, Andy. Apparently there was a new kid and Andy wanted him in our "group". Though it was just me and Andy, we called ourselves the Goof Troop and liked to think of us as our own little group. I quickly texted a 'sure. Can I meet him?' Andy was quick to reply, telling me that he was coming over with the new kid. It had felt like an hour when 2 minutes later the downstairs door could be heard opening. Andy knew my parents weren't home and even if they were he was basically family. He knew where to find me, and wasn't shocked to see my messy room and me sprawled out on my bed. He took the advantage of my shoes on the ground and threw one at me "you have to actually be alive to meet the new kid" he yelled, jumping on the bed. I quickly pushed him off causing him to fall pretty hard on his shoulder. Ronnie just watched. You couldn't tell if he was concerned or amused or anything at all. Andy laughed through the pain and turned to lay on his back, still laughing just as I sat up,looking at the new kid. He had shaggy black hair and deep brown eyes that were lined with eyeliner. He wore a plain white shirt and blue skinny jeans. I stood up and stepped over Andy to get to him. He smiled softly at me which I returned "I'm Y/n" I introduced "Ronnie" he said back. I nodded. Just by the looks, he'd get along with us well. I turned to go sit on my bed again which Andy was now sitting on too. Ronnie took the chair from my desk and sat, facing us "so.. what brings you to this town?" I asked after a few moments of silence. "Oh, my mom grew up here.. she wanted to leave it behind but kept saying it was her home and she couldn't" I nodded. I get why someone would feel like that but not about Lanierville.
"Sweet. Welcome to Devil Town!" Andy quickly said before I could make a comment on that poor decision. Ronnie just smiled and nodded. Another silence... until Ronnie was the one to speak up "this may seem weird but am I the only one who feels.. weird here..? Not just the house but the town..?"
"Everyone feels like that" I shrug "it's called Devil Town for a reason." Andy just nodded. Ronnie seemed interested.
"And it doesn't bother y'all?" He asked, curiosity and concern laced in his voice.
"No it definitely bothers people..but only when you think about it."
Once again Andy nodded, Ronnie doing the same.
"I don't think I'm gonna sleep for a while then" he nervously laughed
Andy smiled "you'll get used to it with time" he tried to sound comforting "but if I'm being honest.. why Lanierville... I mean I have the same question for whoever in my family decided to live here.. it's a fucked up place. Creepy, old. The cops don't give a damn.. so a lot of criminal activity. I don't see how it's still a town" he spoke softly but firmly, it was obvious he hated the town. Hell, everyone who lived there did. It was like something was just keeping them there. Even if they wanted to leave and forget everything they couldn't..
what happens in Devil Town.. stays in Devil Town.. even the people
"I guess it's just home.."
