"Rory! Come down for dinner!" her mom shouted from the other room. You see Lorelei was never rich, shit she wasn't even close to fitting in with the famous 14 year olds in encino. Not even close.

Rory was a nickname her mom gave her ever since she was born. She never called her her Lorelei as it sounded "too fancy" her moms name was actually Lorelei as well. She thought if rich white men name their sons after themselves why can't she name her daughter after herself?
Her mom was probably the biggest feminist she's ever met. She always talked about how she got payed less as a women, why she wasn't aloud to leave work because of period cramps but the men she worked with could leave off a headache, and she went to so many protests for women's rights.

Lorelei looked up to her mom, I mean who wouldn't? Her father on the other hand was complete mess. He never took care of Lorelei, for gods sake he didn't remember her name. She doesn't even remember a time he was completely sober. Also her brother Robby was a complete mess as well. He hadn't seen her since she was 7 for gods sakes. He was only her half brother but he could at least put in effort to keep up with her life right.

She quickly got snapped out of her thoughts as her mom barged into her room. "Rory! I was calling you! You didn't even answer." She scolded her

"Sorry, mom. What's up?" Lorelei questioned her mom

Her mom scanned her room as though she was looking for something. "Rory come down, it's dinner." She said while looking at the clock on her desk.

"I'm coming, one second. I have to do one thing." She said while finishing her sketch of an dress she was designing.

Lorelei came from her room and sat down slowly at the dinner table. Her kitchen was pretty unique it had velvet leather chairs on the left alongside with a black dining table, a small kitchen on the right with stools at the end. It was cheap but her mom tried to go all out with their apartment. She quickly got snapped out of her thoughts as her mom started speaking again.

"Lorelei we have to talk. It's about school..." Her mom said seriously with a stern look on her face that screamed 'something wrong had happened.'

She continued speaking and said "you're moving schools... to north valley high. We can't drive an hour just for you to go to your old school. It's too much money. We don't have that kind of money."
She seemed upset while saying 'we don't have that kind of money.' You see she never brought money into the topic. It was a rough topic for her to discuss.

"What do you mean I'm moving schools?" Lorelei shouted as she stood up from her chair

"Rory... please you know I tried. I just couldn't, I'm sorry." Her mom said softly trying to comfort her

"I understand mom but the kids at that school are assholes. They only care about money. Also I finally made
friends. I just don't wanna leave my life...again." Lorelei tried to reason

"Rory, you know I don't like this right? I miss when we lived in reseda. But this is our life now, Lorelei. We can't
change the past but we can decide the future. Your school starts tomorrow. It starts at 8:05 leave the house at 8. Go on the
bus stop near our apartment building." Her mom said

"Yeah, yeah. I'm not hungry right now, I'll eat later. Thanks." Lorelei said while getting up and going to her
bedroom.
