"Shehnaaz... tu yaha thi?" Her friend Ameira asked. "Mai tumhe kabse doondh rhi thi?"
"Par kyu?" Shehnaaz asked.
"Arre wo humari principal madam bula rhi thi tumko". She informed making Shehnaaz nervous.
"Haaye Allah! Saba Api hume kyu bula rhi hai? Kahi...kahi unko Ishaan ke baare mein pata to nhi chal gya? Agar pata lag gya na... to wo sabse pehle ghar pe batayenge aur dekhna meri college bhi band hogi". She said with a crying face making her friends roll their eyes.
"Tum kyu itna pareshaan hoti ho? Unko kuch nahi pata hoga..."
"Nahi na Ruqsar, unhone parso dekha tha mujhe aur Ishaan ko baate karte hue". She said playing with her dupatta.
"Haa to...? Baatein hi kar rhe the na? Agar uske baare mein pooche to bol dena ke sirf dosth hai. Ab jaa jaldi..." Ruqsar pushed her. She nervously walked through the corridor, making her way to the principal's office. She was silently chanting something to gather some courage.
"May I come in Madam..." She asked from the door.
A lady in her early 40's, wearing a hijab, looked at the door to find a nervous Shehnaaz. She was discussing something with a professor, sitting on her chair.
"Yes Shehnaaz Malik..." She answered formally. Shehnaaz proceed towards her taking baby steps and stood in front of her table.
"Gu...good morning, Mam". She fumbled.
"Good morning..." The lady replied without looking at her. "That's all for now. We'll discuss this later". She said to the professor sitting in front of her. The professor excused himself and left the cabin making Shehnaaz more nervous as she was now alone with the principal.
Shehnaaz was playing with her dupatta looking down when she heard- "Take a seat". She looked up and saw the lady staring at her.
"No Mam... I'm fine".
"Shehnaaz aapko pata hai humne aapko yaha kyu bulaya hai?" The lady spoke making Shehnaaz nod negatively. It's was unprofessional of her but her sad pout on that innocent and nervous face brought a smile on the lady's face.
"Itna kya darr rhi ho baccha? Aapne koi gunah kiya hai kya?" The lady asked sweetly making Shehnaaz shake her head instantly.
"Nhi nhi Saba Appi... Allah kasam kuch nhi kiya humne! Wo to aapne aise achanak bulaya to..." Shehnaaz started but she was cut off by Saba.
"Dekho... college ke Director sir bhi aa gye". Saba said looking towards the door. Shehnaaz turned to look at a man, in his late 40's, entering the cabin, dressed in a suit.
"Good Morning Sir". Shehnaaz said politely standing up from the chair.
"Very good morning Shehnaaz". He said warmly with a wide grin. "Khadi kyu ho? Baitho baitho..." He sat on the principal's chair while Saba stood next to him.
Irfan Khan and Sabana Khan are the owners of the college where Shehnaaz is studying. They are also her relatives who are in absolute awe of Shehnaaz. They have seen her growing up. They always find her cute and adorable but she was an actual beauty with brains. She was excellent in her academics. The Khan couple always took her as their own daughter because they don't have one. They have 2 sons. Elder one is 3 years older than Shehnaaz and younger one is a year younger than her.
"Mamu... I mean sir, aapne mujhe achanak kyu bulaya?" She asked. Saba and Irfan looked at each other and smiled.
"Tumhe congratulate karne... aur kis liye?" Irfan said grinning widely. "Iss semester mein bhi top kiya hai tumne... To college ke owners ke naate nahi par tumhare mama ke naate to tumhe Mubarak dena banta haina?"
"Thank you so much". Shehnaaz said giggling.
"And isse aise hi continue rakhna, theek hai? Don't get distracted". Saba said sternly making Shehnaaz's smile fade. She nodded looking down.
"Ammi kaisi hai tumhari? Bohot din ho gye na hume ghar aaye hue? Sab kaise hai waha?" Irfan asked.
"Ji...sab khairiyat se hai". She said in a low voice.
"Dekho Sana... Hum aapko apni beti ki tarah maante hai aur hum nahi chahte ke aap kisi musibat mein padho. Aapko duniya ke taur tarike nhi pata. Aap bohot masoom hai aur aapki age hi aisi hai ke aapko bohot aasani se behla phisla sake... I think aap samajh rhi hai ke mai kya kehna chahti hu". Saba gave her the que. She looked down like guilty and nodded.
"And Shehnaaz...hum ye baat aapse isiliye bol rhe hai kyunki aap baaki students ki tarah nhi ho. We have some responsibility towards you. Aapke abbu ne humare kehne par aapko yaha bheja hai. Please don't waste this chance. Ok?" Irfan said and smiled at last.
"Ji..." She replied and stood up to go. Irfan placed his hand on her head making her look at him. He smiled and so does she before going out of the cabin.
Irfan Khan was the man she had always admired in her life. He was her mother's cousin and was nothing like those dominating male chauvinist of her family whose ego was bigger than their brains. How does she know? By looking at his wife. Saba Khan, Sabana Malik was from a wealthier family but men in her family were no different than men of Sana's family. She was married at the age 20, while doing her bachelors. She was also taught to be a good obedient house wife, her whole life who just obeys her husband without uttering a word. But she is the strong woman today only because of her husband. She is not seated on the principal's chair because of the title of the owner's wife, but because she is fully eligible and qualified. She completed her bachelors after her marriage as per her husband's wish, and masters after their first child. She is given equal right as Irfan in making decisions in business as well as in family matters, if not more.
