TO BE HONEST, AMARI RUENG wasn't always like the crazy scary girl she is right now; the one that hangs out with maddy and parties every other week. way before all the molly and alcohol, amari was a very sweet and quiet girl. good grades, big, shiny eyes, pretty in pink type of shit. as the only asian kid in the town since like birth, amari always got pushed around, it didn't help that she was a giant push over too, so she just let it slide all the time, and never said a word.
i remember the first timei met amari. the first time was in mr. martin's sixth grade english class. amari was bright and perfect. she helped me understand adverbs and how to use them. she was really good friends with lexi at the time, and they always studied together in the library, and talked about their favorite novels. but honestly, lexi wasn't s good friend to amari. every time amy jennings and her little racist gang gathered around to fuck with amari, lexi wasn't there to stand up for her; she was busy hiding behind a bush. i can't blame lexi for hiding, but if you think about it from like a third person point of view, you'd see how much that sucked for amari.
but one day in the seventh grade, it went too far. amy and a couple of white girls ganged up on her during passing period and repeatedly smashed her head between a locker. i think amari was gonna die that day if some vietnamese kid didn't step in; his name was vincent anh, and he barely moved to town from the bay area i think, somewhere up in norcal, i don't really remember. honestly all i remember from that day was vincent walking her to the nurse's office and holding her bloody hand,
and the trail of blood trickling down the side of amari's smiling face.
amari has a really badass scar on her right eyebrow from that incident, but it makes her look like she'll kill you, which doesn't help when you need to ask her for help with chemistry.
after that insanely terrifying moment, amari stopped letting people walk all over her, thanks to vincent. and that's when maddie noticed her and like recruited her to be apart of her little clique. but you'll rarely ever see amari with them because she's always with vincent, attached to his hip at school, or helping him and fez at the liquor store.
VINCENT ANH IS A GHOST. you'd think everyone would know everything about him because he hangs out with people like mckay and nate, but surprisingly that's not the case. only two people know about vincent's past: fez and amari. fez spared the really fucked up details but to sum up what he told me, vincent is fucking heartless. apparently one time him and fez were at their supplier's place, and like some guy got his brains blown out. fez looked over to him 'cause it was vincent's first time doing outside business with fez and watching that happen wasn't really apart of the plan, but vincent had no reaction to witnessing that shit up close, or to the small splash of blood on his face. and that's when fez knew that vincent was one crazy ass motherfucker.
aside from the dark stuff about vincent, he's actually a pretty good guy according to amari. vincent only deals drugs to support his grandma and little brother, and he's captain of the varsity basketball team. that's all she told me because apparently vincent doesn't want anyone using any information about his life against him, which is 100% understandable. especially when you're a basketball star during the day, and a drug dealer at night.
TRUTH BE TOLD,AMARIAND vincent aren't even dating. everyone knows they aren't, but it's still shocking, regardless. like, they even have nicknames for each other. amari calls vincent, "vin" because it's how you pronounce his real name, and vincent calls amari, "mars" because "she's not from planet earth." the reason behind amari's nickname is a reference to "honey bun" by kodak black, which is both cute and stupid at the same time. i'm pretty sure they fuck on the low too, but since they're really good at hiding stuff, the world will never know.
vincent and amari have love each other, they just won't admit it. and i really couldn't tell you why, nobody could. it was something only they knew.
