Porkchops looked around. Steve was nowhere in sight. But there was something in sight.

A Creeper.

Of course, Porkchops wasn't afraid of Creepers. He knew monsters always ignored animals. Nevertheless, he walked up to the Creeper.

"Hey you!" Porkchops said in pig language. "Where did Steve go?!"

The Creeper didn't turn around. Porkchops tried again. "Did you kill him?! If you did, I'm going to have to kill you!"

The Creeper walked away, without any hint that he heard the pig. Porkchops decided he would have to find Steve himself.

It was getting dark out, but like Porkchops said, he wasn't afraid of monsters. So, he started smelling the air.

After searching for a bit, he found Steve's scent. Porkchops started walking towards it. When he exited the forest, he realized Steve's scent was coming from a small mountain about twenty blocks away. Porkchops walked towards it.

He walked along the side of the mountain, sniffing the air every few seconds. He knew Steve was in a shelter that he had built inside the mountain. Porkchops rounded the corner of the mountain and saw Steve, staring shakily at him with a stone sword poised. Porkchops froze, looking at him.

Steve fainted.

Porkchops stared at Steve laying on the ground for a few seconds, then walked over to him. He nudged the unconscious man. Steve didn't move.

Porkchops decided to guard Steve. He positioned himself so he could watch Steve and the opening, then waited.

As night passed by, Porkchops stood watch. Luckily, he never gets bored of anything, so he was totally fine with guarding Steve.

The sun rose. Steve still didn't move, so Porkchops continued guarding.

Porkchops grew worried when he could see the sun. That meant it had already been six hours since sun rise. And the man still didn't wake up.

Porkchops decided to use a different tactic. His mother used to do this to wake him up, back when he was still Ronald. Porkchops decided to try it on Steve.

He started licking Steve's face. For awhile, nothing happened. Then, the man's eyes opened.

Steve sat up and pushed Porkchops off of him. He then said,"I'm gonna have to give you a name, little guy." Porkchops looked at him anxiously, desperately wanting a name that wasn't Ronald. He didn't like that name. It reminded him too much of his family.

"Let's see...what's a good pig name? Bacon? Hammy? Oh, I know! Porkchops!" Steve said.

Porkchops loved that decision. He ran in a circle, letting out an unintelligible cry. Porkchops sounded like an excellent name. He wondered what it meant.

"Ya know, you gave me a real scare last night," Steve said to Porkchops. "I thought you were a Creeper!"

"Whatever," Porkchops snorted in pig language. He decided to drop the excited-pet act. Figuring Steve didn't need protection at the moment, Porkchops walked out onto the plain and started eating some tall grass. Standing guard all night famished him.

After a while, Porkchops looked back at the shelter. Steve wasn't visible, but he could still smell him. He walked inside the shelter and found Steve mining a staircase downward. Steve noticed the pig looking at him.

"Stay up there buddy," Steve said while mining a block below his feet. Porkchops knew that wasn't a good idea, but he didn't say anything.

"Mines can get really dangerous. Especially when monsters spawn in abando-ahhh!" Steve suddenly disappeared from sight. He had finished mining the block below him and fell into a cave or something. "Ow!" Porkchops heard Steve say.

Porkchops was about to go help Steve when he remembered what he had said. "Stay up there buddy." Porkchops decided to listen to Steve, and he walked back out on the plain. He continued eating some tall grass.

Porkchops could also smell emotions with his nose. When someone is happy, their scent becomes...happier. It's hard to describe. When someone is afraid, their scent gets stronger. This happened a few hours after Steve had fallen into the mine.

Porkchops looked up, alarmed. Steve's scent had gotten much stronger. That meant he was afraid. Porkchops knew Steve got afraid way too often, but still, he decided to go see what was the matter.

He walked down the staircase and looked into where Steve had fallen. It was a cave. Porkchops knew he had one option-to jump.

So, he did. It didn't hurt too much. Just a little bit. Porkchops knew he could eat some grass later and he would feel much better.

He started walking, following Steve's scent, which was still very strong. After a bit of walking, he found a place where it looked like Steve had mined something. Porkchops took this as a good sign. Unfortunately, the scent was still strong.

After some more walking, Porkchops saw a strange sight. A Skeleton was shooting his arrows into a small ravine that had lava at the bottom. At first Porkchops was confused, but then he realized, Steve's scent was coming from down the ravine!

Porkchops knew he had to do something drastic. So, he did something he had never done in his life.

He charged at the Skeleton, whose back was still turned to him. Porkchops felt his body collide with the Skeleton's bony one, and the Skeleton fell down the ravine. Hopefully it wouldn't hit Steve.

Porkchops walked to the edge of the ravine, where the Skeleton was standing before he met his fiery end. Steve was hanging from a stone protrusion, but climbing up it. When he was firmly on it, Steve looked up.

He seemed surprised to see Porkchops standing there.

"Porkchops! That was dangerous!" he called to him as he pillared his way up to him.

Porkchops snorted in pig language, saying "That was nothing." Even though he didn't believe it himself.

Steve patted Porkchops on the head when he walked by him, then walked back the way Porkchops had come. The pig followed him, watching his back.

When they reached the shelter, it was dark out. Steve placed a few torches, then slumped against the wall. Porkchops stood next to him, watching the opening of the shelter.

"Good piggy," Steve said, then fell asleep, as Porkchops guarded him from the horrors of the night.
