Stepping out onto the asphalt surface, Avery Dark breathed in the fresh Spencer Academy air. Pushing her back Fendi sunglasses to the top of her head, she let her eyes scan the scenery. What would soon be her kingdom. She ran her hands down the front of her pink and gray argyle sweater, smoothing out any creases. Before fluffing her hair one last time and perching her sun glasses back in place. She had to be presentable if she was going to be anybody here. This was her time to shine, and a crease in her sweater was not going to be the downfall of her. No.

“Watson? Do you think you can bring my things to my room? Yeah? That would be lovely! Thanks” She said in a flurry, not even bothering to take another glance at her driver who had been struggling under the weight of the copious quantities of luggage she had brought with her. Instead she put her head up high and walked with poise into the school. They were going to notice her, she was sure. She was smart, pretty, had had nice clothes. How could they not?  She was what one would call the pristine candidate for social hierarchy. Though she would soon come to realize, so were about half the people that resided here.

Everything was silent, the only sound that was heard were the many gasps that emitted from people’s mouths and sound of Avery’s black suede Christian Louboutin pumps clacking against the ground of Spencer. All the attention was on her. Three dozen sets of eyes, all focusing on one Avery Dark. This was the moment she had been waiting for. The moment when people finally recognized her for what she was. Their idol.

‘I don’t understand. Why aren’t they looking at me? Don’t they see me? Oh… Maybe I’m invisible. Wait. What?’ Her mind was just as hectic as the world around her. Everywhere people whizzed about. And in every direction her eyes looked, there was a person in sight, all running around in frenzy, moving boxes, talking to people in a hurry. This was most defiantly not the picture in her head. This was the complete opposite, in fact someone just ran into her

That’s when it happened. The scene in her head. That glorious moment of silence. Though just not for her. This girl. The girl living in her moment. She was stunning. She had dark chocolate brown tresses that Avery longed for. Brilliant green irises that captivated the attention of the masses. She didn’t know who this girl was, but one thing was for sure. She wished she were her. She longed for the way people gazed at her, the way people admired her.

“Hey, who’s that?” She asked a random girl that was beside her, with anticipation and uncertainty. Though her uncertainty was only amplified when the girl started to chuckle.

“W-Whats so funny?”

“You must be new… Obviously. That. That right there is Jade Foster. And by the look on your face, you’re just another dimwit peon who thinks she could strut in here and take the school as her own. Pathetic.” Watching the girls retreating figure, something cracked within her. Maybe she wasn’t the most suited to be queen, but that no way in hell meant she was going to give up.
